Been playing with the Menatone TBIAC pedal for a couple weeks now - some early impressions.
I was looking to get a "EL84" tone out of a rig using 6L6 and 34's. Previously I carried multiple amps and a switcher. I was looking to lighten my load, and wondered if pedals could do it.
I liked the clean sound of 6L6's and the lead tone of 84's - so that is what I was looking to achieve.
The pedal is VERY adjustable - minor variations in the knob settings give huge variations in response. This thing LOVES humbuckers.
The "violin" lead tones are FANTASTIC!!!!!! They are very similar to a Matchless at full-tilt. If I a/b the pedal against the real thing, sure, I can hear subtle differences - but not enough to matter in a gig setting.
It will decay into harmonic feedback to some degree...though not as well as a real tube (no suprise there). Supersaturated tones are no problem.
It cleans up to some degree with vol. control and/or right hand attack - but again, not as responsive as a real tube.
The sparkle is there.....a great pedal!
I suspect that if you're recording, you should still bring the Matchless...but for on-stage use, the pedal does just fine.
I highly recommend this pedal, and it will now be a regular part of my rig.
