Some time ago, Gibson made Dan Erlewine an R9 with a BRZ fingerboard that Dan supplied.
Spent time on this last year.

Having played a BRW ML at local shop at Matte's suggestion and having sold the one vintage LP I used to take out to the local bar to play, a 58 BB, I wanted a player LP. So at suggestion of a couple of Gibson dealers and players reached out to the Nashville M2M shop to replicate my GT. Pleaded, sent photos of the 57 GT, shared that I had owned 25+ new or vintage Gibsons over my lifetime so a loyal customer...NOPE. No BRW GT, no customer supplied wood...very disappointing lack of customer service..."it's the policy" BS doesn't ride well with me. I accommodate my clients in my business.

I wonder if “no customer supplied wood” is due to legal reasons. I’m imagining a customer supplying rhinoceros hide to Gucci for a wallet, bent and shoes.

Is there a way to confirm this? If Dan Erlewine can do it, than anyone can.

(Was the fretboard an old Gibson fretboard? Then it might go under the heading “restoration” and everything is above board.)

Another friend asked for BRW board on $20K LP build and they said, no dice.

Kind of answer you'd expect from PE run, MBA finance jerk decision making. (Can relate as I am the latter.)

Actually, there was a thread about it on here about it over 20 years ago. Might be hard to find. He had some BRW, I'm sure since he is fairly well known that they accommodated him.

That M2M is absolutely stunning. Please put some playing clips up if you can! I'd love to hear it.
