I bought this about 5 years ago, and am confused by the serial number. 8-digit, 1st and 5th says its an '89 but what to make of the crazy headstock? I realize the Kahler was probably not a gibson instal, but has anyone seen a 1989 Flying V with a headstock like a 1970's Flying V? Oh, also the pots date to 1975 but who knows what that all means. Thanks in advance.IMG_8779.jpegIMG_8777.jpeg

Tuners are Norlin era I believe and that would coincide with the pot codes.
3 piece neck is also a Norlin era attribute.
My money is on a mid 1970s example.

No volute is interesting. Would guess mid 70s as well that someone re-worked the neck to remove the volute. 75 serial could have been the decal type and lost in the process of the refin. That serial stamp doesn't look like factory Gibson (the 3s in particular aren't right, should look all curved like the 8 with openings on the left).

Yeah, that serial number looks odd, never seen a black embossed one or that headstock shape in 89

My bet its a refinished 75, lost serial number (likely stolen) someone just added the new fake serial number and MIA.

And looking again at the headstock, it has no volute, therefor at least an 82, as it's rather rounded.
