• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I've just bought my 2nd Gibson Les Paul. I had a Faded that was not one of Gibson's best--tuners were crap too.

So I'm hoping this one--which should be here by next week--is a good player.

Do any of you know the specs for a 2012 Traditional?

I know about the two piece, laminated fb Gibson used around that time--and it doesn't bother me one bit.

When did they stop using weight relief on them?

I've read conflicting things, and so I don't know the true gen on the subject. Any info appreciated.

Beautiful LP. HNGD!!!!

Here's some info on the 2012 Trads for you.

Traditional Weight Relief (9 Swiss cheese holes)
1 or 2 piece backs
2 piece laminated fretboard
57 Classic neck, 57 Classic Plus bridge

Trads were traditionally weight relieved from their introduction in 2008 up through 2012. During the 2013-2015 years they switched to non-weight relief and then back to traditional weight relief again in 2016.

Hope this helps. Enjoy your new Trad! :)

Thanks for the info. I am curious about the weight relief. My last LP weighed in at 10lbs--little tough on my shoulder after a four hour gig.

No idea how to answer, but that is a nice looking axe!

Thanks. When I was a kid, I saw a slide player playing with Eric Carmen's "All by Myself"--dude was playing it on a cherry sunburst. That's been my favorite color ever since. That's what initially made me want a Les Paul.

Mahogany weight really varies. I've seen weights all over the place... over 10lbs with weight relief... under 9lbs w/o weight relief.

But generally speaking, yeah I appreciate those 9 Swiss cheese holes on my traditionally weight relieved 2016 Trad (it weights 9lbs). It's just about the perfect weight for me. Meaty and lets you know you have an LP around your neck, but not too heavy. My 2014 Trad is non-weight relieved and weighs 9 lbs 12oz... and that extra 12oz can really be felt when playing for extended times. But I do prefer the 2014's fatter 58ish neck profile. But that's a whole nuther discussion! :laugh2:

I love 50s necks, but my hands handle the 60s profile better.

I have heard that the weight of mahogany in guitars varies.

I am just dying for FedEx to get here--should be here by Dec 30th, this Wednesday. All day Wednesday I'll be tracking and tracking.

Ya know, I thought you just put the slides in backwards but then I noticed the lettering is all the right way! Even the "joined up" letterin' on them Marshalls. How did you do that? Is this Photographshop or somethin'?

It's all angles. They're the pics from the shop that sold it to us on Reverb.

I'm not really left handed. I just pretend. It's cost me a lot of money.
