• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Opinions on the '66 -'67 335s??

Thought I might add my 2 cents. I bought a 66 in 1966 when I was 15 and it was my only for a long time. Last year I sent it to Dan E to freshen up. The only big move I did was to let Dan do a reversable mod to the Bigsby to address tuning problems and aid in sustain (I hated to have those holes showing). This guitar is unbelievable! It puts any action to shame I've ever played and has absolutely no buzzes. You scored big IMHO. I'd love to have "Cherry Red's" sister!

hmmm..."fairly fat C shaped neck"? I'd pass. I've spend most of my guitar hunting days looking for skinny necks. 67s came in fat necks?

Yes, this one's neck is really fat on the back. One of the fatest I've seen on the old ones. I'm quite surprised by it!
The narrower width actually makes it comfortable for me to play. If it had the wider width, I'm not sure if it would feel comfortable in my hands...
Another great 335! Thanks Mark! :dude:

My opinion of the '67 has been highly enlightened....Because I recently bought a '67 Trini Lopez, which is actually a 335!

This describes exactly the neck on my Trini! It is narrow at the nut but the neck radius makes it feel great. The guys who have played it(who own vintage 335s) say it is very full or clubby!

Congrats on the 335-I know you'll enjoy that one!

Take Care,

Johnny

Finally took my '66 335 out to a rehearsal. By god, what a sound! Played through a Matchless Chieftan, the rest of the band was totally digging it. We played out last night, but I didn't bring it. They all let me know that from now on, it's the red one or else ...

I bought two '67s recently. The first one had a real bad problem with the finish on the back of the neck so it needed to be sent in to be refinished. But I love that narrow chubby neck so much that I bought the second one to play while the first is being repaired. Those patent number sticker pickups aren't too shabby either!

Bill

PS: I nominate "narrow chubby" as the official description of the '67 neck.
