• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Hello I am new and I got a question for anyone I ordered a Gibson Les Paul Studio 2012 from a pawn shop ( unseen) When I got it it has a serial number of 00502390. Not a 2012 it comes back as a 1976 LP limited edition open the cavity and the pots are correct. Gibson pots but the pickups are Semore Duncan the tuners and pride are correct as far as I can tell. The hard case is not correct but the case candy is there . Any one got any ideas did I get robbed

Pictured headstock serial does not match what is in the case accoutrement... that's probably why the year discrepancy.

This might be a 2002 Les Paul Special Faded / Worn Cherry. I believe those came with Klusons and covered pickups of course yours could have been modded: Beans seem... an interesting choice... for tip replacements.

Does it have a belly comfort cut on the back?

Not sure what to think about the presumption of 76 pot codes...?

More pictures would help.

Recommend you call seller pronto to alert about the case contents serial not matching and apprise them of potential 'mistaken' identity to give you room for decision making in case.

I'm with JB on this one. THis isn't a studio, much less from 2012. It's obviously not 1976 either - that would be a 6 digit serial number.
The serial indicates an '02, and it definitely looks like the faded special junior whaetever they called it at the time.

I went back and inquired about it and was told that one of the tuners had broken so they all were replaced with newer tuners. As for the pots I am unable to get information from them 41DAF2E0-EC9C-4C22-B87F-47F04B18136F.jpeg

That's a mod job, especially given the shield paint.

Belly cut on back?
Yes it has a belly cut. It looks like I will have a bit of restoration to do on it. I think from what people are telling me it is a mixed 76. The pots well I can’t tell what that are can’t read them so I think I will replace the tuners with Gibson Delux s and the control post with a shielded Gibson control board two conducted connecter ( black connecter) I will keep the Semore Duncan pickups. I will use the tuners on a hulk I found and see if I can clean up the pots enough to see what they are. The meter indicates 500k A rust on tops

for comparison, here's what a 1976 serial number looks like:

A belly cut too is wrong. Serial number totally wrong for a 1976. If it was advertised and purchased as such then it was a ripoff.

plus the case candy with the alternative serial number is also clearly HJ-era although I couldn't read the number, but that belongs to another guitar so the seller has some 'continuity issues' at the very minimum. Caveat Emptor, yes, but you should have some words and come to terms with the seller.

I would send it back. I’d much rather have the arch top Studio that you paid for than a ‘Special’ abomination with Nashville bridge and HBs.
