Was interested in learning more about the guitars that Hole played, and it is revealed that Eric Erlandson and Courtney Love used a majority of borrowed guitars on Celebrity Skin. Courtney primarily played Fender and Rickenbacker guitars through Fender and Ampeg amps.
Eric's good friend Pat Smear [ex-Germs, Nirvana and Foo Fighters] lent him a bunch of axes, including a Hagstrom 12-string (heard on "Hit So Hard") a Burns baritone (capoed high and played on "Use Once & Destroy" and "Boys On The Radio," "Playing Your Song" and "Celebrity Skin"), a Gibson SG, a Les Paul, an ES 335 and a Gretsch White Falcon.
Whatever tracks the SG was used on I wouldn't know. Melissa Auf Der Maur also played a Gibson SG and a Fender bass, but whether Melissa owned one or if it was rented/borrowed I wouldn't know. I guess she did own one. It is also believed that Pat Smear used this SG on In Utero and on the Foo Fighters early recordings. Smear is also thanked in credits of Celebrity Skin.
At the time Eric Erlandson was playing those Veleno guitars and I never really cared much for their sound.
I am pretty sure that Pat Smear's SG was red. That is the usual color of an SG. I have also written to Eric Erlandson and Patty Schemel for their help on this subject, but neither one has been writing back.
Also what tracks did Pat Smear use his SG on, when did he get it, and does he still own it? Please let me know.
You would have to be a Hole fan, which I am not, to like this post and/or reply to it.
Patty Schemel has also admitted to not playing at all on Celebrity Skin, whilst Billy Corgan (who allegedly composed 90% of the album with Love) has admitted to playing some bass guitar, leas guitar and keyboard overdubs.
