So the R9 have a smaller profile than the R7's. I thought theR7 neck would cause me problems cause of its girth, since my LP had a 60's neck and all of my other guitars including my SG and ES-333 are quite thin. I must tell you I really like the thick neck it is totaly different to play but not uncomfortable and I have no aches in the wrist or hands after 2 hours of playing, I get cramps with my other guitars after about 1 3/4 and have to take a break. I find this very strange.

IMO, It seems,

03 R9's have a different profile than others, they are more "C" shaped with a slight taper.

Some 57, 58, have more D shaped necks. But these change slightly from year to year as well.

I had a 96 R8 that was the fattest of any I've tried. I liked it quite a bit actually. Big all the way down.

(Bigger neck changes tone as well.
;) )

In THEORY,
they neck gets slimmer with each year R7-> R8-> R9-> R0

But there are *many* of exceptions....

Yeah after seeing that Guy on Made in America cuttin the necks by eyeball I would say that they are all a little different and your right about the tone it's Fat City.

Just Lovin this R7, so much different than the Standard with the 60's neck.

My Y2K R9 has a huge neck, not medium.

Same here. Until I got an 03 R7, my 00 R9 had the biggest, fattest neck I'd ever played.

I've had several 03 R7's, one 03 R8 and two 03 R9's. To one degree or another they all followed that pattern in descending neck size:

R7->R8->R9

I find the R9's to have the most comfortable neck *to me*. If fat necks are your thing, the R7 is the way to go in 03. My current 03 R9 does have a nice 'C' shape and a comfortable contour to it. Hope this helps :)
