I have one Les Paul Historic I haven't explored = not one screw don't flame me I haven't even played it the new me says leave it be - you will be pissed when the finish lifts with the cover -------- sell it .
I’m not flaming you, but do you mean that you bought a historic and you’ve never played it? If that is so, I can only say please play it and enjoy it. You are missing out on a wonderful guitar.

Way back when I got my first R9 I considered removing the medallion until my cousin told me not to mess with it . Glad I listened .

Is it not an industrial diamond ? Probably not a high value other than sentimental ? Once way back I looked at mine and imagined sticking a real diamond in it for sh$%^and giggles .

Yes, these are NOT expensive diamonds. Definitely low grade and maybe even man made (cubic zirconia). I don't recall ever seeing anything from Gibson stating they are diamonds. It is just inferred on the medallion from the "Diamond Anniversary" verbiage. But even then, it was a cool thing for Gibson to do. Kudos to them.

I'd rather use the plastic cover as it has less impact when coming in contact at the waist (belt/buckle). Might as well just keep the medallion in the case.

I'm in Southern California.. And there's a local Doctor...A Brain Surgeon.. That also does Les Paul plate removals...It's very expensive and he's booked months in advance ... But I've heard wonderful things about the results.....Just something to think about .

Yes, I'm aware of him. He actually has +1 year wait list. That is unrealistic for this simple issue I have. I can share his contact info with anyone else if they want to use him.

Thanks for your contribution.

Cool, please share a pic.

I play this LP heavily, so no worries with a bit of finish lifting with the switch cover. I mentioned in my original post that I had the same issue with the control cover and finish from the cavity lip was removed with the cover. I have no concerns with that.

Please elaborate on why you are glad? It could easily be put back on. No one would ever know! Your post is somewhat vague.

Ok, reading all about others issues in removing the medallion and chipping finish and stuff like that made me glad I did not mess around with it and do something damage wise I would regret later .

Yank the sucker!

None of mine have pulled finish though they all were stuck in pretty good.

And I have done it at least 10 times...

The damn medallion weighs 13 pounds and screams "steal me".

All mine are sitting in my safe with the little books they send.

Tape is the answer. Before I got smart and tried that I tried sticking an icepick into one of the screw holes and attempted to lift it out that way. It broke off a small chunk of wood :(

Sorry that I can't help myself to ask if all of your instruments are in the safe do they get played ?

I don't play my medallions or books.

Or bills of sale.

The tone of them just don't do it for me.

And I am well past trying to impress the groupies.

Besides, if the Princessa ever saw the BoS I'd be guillotined b4 dawn...

I had the same problem with the plastic covers on my 2003 R7. They must have been tapped into the pockets with a mallet. I eventually was able to remove them by going through the screw hole with a tool like this. I sanded the outer perimeter of the covers to reduce the size before reassembling.

Cool, nice flame and color. Did it come with zebra pickups? What year is it?

I see the case has a little "pillow" in the cut-away area. When did Gibson start doing that? My 60th '59 LP had the same case but no "pillow". Is the "pillow" moveable (velcro?) to support lefty LPs?
This is a Daves Guitar ordered run of 8 R8's this is exactly how the guitar was shipped from Gibson the round piece in the case is the pickup selector pad .
