• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

That’s why there’s a difference between talented musicians and collectors lol. Hell I watched a few old guys mouths drop wide open at a jazz gig one time when they looked at my rig after the show and saw a Japanese fender strat plugged straight into a line 6 catalyst lmao. I do that stuff all the time just to prove it’s in your hands.

Mr. Wood past his prime too, no doubt. Doesn't matter. He enjoys playing, whatever gear he plays. He is a true rock'n'roller, and has been a great inspiration to lots of guitarplayers. Myself included. He has given me lots of joy!

Thanks for posting that. Ronnie's take on Chuck is a bit more fluid that Keef's.

Jack Pearson plays stock Indonesian Squiers.
I had a buddy who toured with Frampton (starting with Comes Alive), Hall & Oates, Foreigner, Robert Plant.... I never saw him with the big boys, but any time I played with him or saw him play locally, I only ever saw him play a Squier Strat.

The old story about Steve Vai going in to GC in LA (the mother ship) to buy the best guitar and he came out with a MX Strat.

I own a 60s Fender Roadworn Strat (MIM) and it was perfect right out of the box.
Though I have to add that it was a demo guitar that was meant to make it's round
thru the guitar shops.
Finally I managed to persuade the owner of my local guitar shop to sell it to me.

Bad plan.

I remember seeing a picture in the '80s (might have been in Guitar Player) of RW playing a natural finish, spaghetti logo Tokai Strat-a-like.

I played and still have a Squire silver series Jazz Bass.. which was my number one.. and gigged/recorded extensively .. even though I have a Musicman sterling bass (bought to be my #1) and a 83 Japanese Fender P bass.. (both solid instruments too) the silver series was/is superb.

End of the Day, it's about the Indian, it's not about the Arrow.
My Tokai Les Paul is preferred by me than my 'made to measure ' CS R7

I play a Squier Strat almost daily. I paid $75 for it. It was literally behind a pile of guitars in a corner of a pawnshop in South Dakota.

There you go. If you want a guitar purely for sonics, then audition everything you can $75 and up.The best sounding guitar to you could be dirt cheap.
...If you want a family heirloom, that's different and where one would have to spend a lot more money from the get go.

Well, I tried to go cheaper with the Strat. Due to not liking the V neck, or necks that are just to skinny, or sunburst, or maple boards, or a thick coat of poly finish, or a number of other things that the cheaper ones have going on, I ended up with a Custom Shop Strat (a used one with no play time on it). Sometime I just try too hard:)
