Just completed. Followed the directions included. Did not use the optional low volume resistor mod. Used on a 1999 R9 with Holmes
paf's. Primary amp: all original 1960 Bassman w/ original P12Q's.
In a word: Awesome! I was considering selling the bassman, no way. It really is like getting a whole new rig with much better overall tone and articulation at any volume. My advice would be to not audition any new gear or pickups before installing this kit.
Has anyone tried this on their Strat?

I did the upgrade on all 3 LPs and i am so glad I did. Im using Rolphs & Wagners and i feel I got 3 new guitars, again. The first time was when i switched pickups. I just cant believe that Gibson would use such crap in expensive guitars.........Thanks Roy & Scott.

I saw Roy at the Ohio Winter Guitar Show and bought a wiring kit from him. I installed it this evening and I'm very pleased with the results. Installation was a breeze with the exception of the knob pointers, which I found to be a pain in the ass trying to get them all lined up while tightening the nuts. It almost takes three hands. One to hold the pot to keep it from rotating, one to turn the wrench, and one to keep the frickin' pointer from rotating along with the nut.

Hey DANELECTRO it was great meeting you at the show, and I'm glad you dig the kit.:rsrelic

RS Mod

This may be a silly question but here it goes. Does the RS mod make a difference if run your tone and volume at 10 all the time.

My guitars seem to lack punch and mid definition. Will this mod help me and what am I looking to pay for 3 guitars.

wne you get done with the RS wiring and plug it in for the 1st time and you have everything on 10 it STILL SOUNDS LIKE A NEW GUITAR and finally lets you hear everything.

i cannot say enough good things about it and i strongly reccomend the treble circuit...it's amazing what that little thing does.

So can you give me any details on the wiring kit for Juniors? Does it contain 500K CTS audio tapers and the .022mf Hovland? I am really interested in getting this kit along with a Fralin P-90 with a 5% overwind. If it is as good as the kit for humbuckers, I'm sure I won't be disappointed. Any input on the Junior kit would be appreciated though.

The Jr kit comes with the same selected 500K audio pots, .022 Hovland caps, and High pass circuit for the volume, plus our schematic to make it work just like the bucker kit does.

Does anyone here think they could tell the difference between this kit and buying CTS pots and orange drop caps from Black Rose for less than half of the money you'd pay for the RS kit?

The Hovland cap is a much better cap than the orange drop. Also, you get the schematic and fast response tech support fm Roy. He goes way beyond the extra mile to make sure you are satisfied. There was a guy on the Forum that broke a knob when he changed his pots out, Roy sent him a new one. You could probably save a few bucks but the support you get is invaluable IMO.

Yeah I've heard that the hovland is better than the orange drop but I'm asking if anyone thinks they could tell the difference in a blind test based on tone.

To be honest I'm not sure I could tell the difference between a Hovland and the orange drop cap. I'm not eric Johnson. I can tell the difference between standard wiring, 50's wiring, which to me is better than standard, and the wiring you get with the rsrelic kit. The before and after sounded like different guitars. The money you might save is not a dealbreaker for me. I now have tone and volume controls that really work for the 1st time. I didn't really believe there would be that much difference. I did a search here and read all the stuff the other members had written and figured what the hell. I've spent way more on other mods and been way less impressed. I would recommend this before a pup change as I feel this mod would better help you evaluate what your pup is really doing. This is just my opinion ya know but it is based on actually doing it.

Other than the mod to keep the highs as you roll down the volume pot (bright cap?) is the wiring the same as 50's?

The wiring is nothing like the '50's.

IMO it is much better. If you do a search you will find that most people that have done it feel that way. I haven't heard of anyone changing back. In my R9, I did the '50's wiring and had real NOS bumble bee caps, and they were expensive. Now I have two bumble bee caps I don't need. My guitars are all they can be now, I just need to practice more.

Thanks for clarifying that. I know how much of a difference new pots can make (installed new pots and 50's wiring a few months ago). I wasn't sure if the RS Kit went even further (other than the caps).
