Waddya think? What's worth more?

89 2 pickup black beauty ( les Paul carved his name on the back to me / I imagine that's more sentimental than monetary in value)
For
78 tobacco sunburst strat with black guard and black pickups?
What would you do???
I was considering the trade as I thought the strat would be easier to sell
Opinions please

If Les Paul carved his name in the back of my guitar it would not go anywhere.

No. Late 70s Strats are very inconsistent and "hit or miss" style. Not the best Fender era really and they wont rise in price much. Keep the LP.

why do you want to get rid of the LP that LP carved/signed???

89 Gibson and 78 Fender - not exactly uber expensive desirable gold mines, but dam man! Les Pauls Signature on that baby, i know he signed a few, but still, a cool thing to have!

Keep the Gibson! and i say that as a picker who plays a Stratocaster more than a LP :salude

DO NOT DO THIS ! You will regret it the moment it happens, trust me. Do what you can do to get the strat,
borrow money, sell something, make payments, give blood, whatever, etc. Then, play both for a while and the decision will be very evident. IMHO :yah

When you get a chance, can you please post pics of this guitar including the " carved " autograph.

Thank you.

If I understand you correctly, you want to trade the Les Paul for the Stratocaster because you believe the Strat will be easier to flip. If that is your intention, than I would probably agree that a nonissue Strat would be easier to sell than a Les Paul with an issue…

In this case, I certainly wouldn't. I like Fenders equally but no love here for ANY Strats from that era from me. Keep the Custom!!

Thank you for your opinions. I'll post pics of the les Paul as soon as I get to my other computer.
I know you're alll right. But it really helped to hear it.
I never loved 70s strats. I remember when they hung in all the pawn shops on 8th ave and they were considered dogs. But time goes by and opinions change.
It is a sentimental guitar in that I met Les a few times and he burned his name in the back ( because a sharpie wouldn't show up on a black guitar)
I have had a love hate thing going with this one, but in the scheme of things, I have other equipment I can sell or trade.
My original intention was to sell it, and the trade came up. I knew I should proceed with caution and needed to think about it. That's why I decided to post the question here and see what kind of responses would come up. I certainly appreciate it. And yeas I would probably regret it right away, had I done it.
I'll post pictures of the les Paul in a bit, and see if I can get a few of the strat as well

The Les Paul should be worth quite a bit more than the Strat, based on your descriptions.
No way is it a good trade at "even".

No player's arsenal is complete without both. No 2 guitars cover the usable spectrum more than a Strat and a LP, except maybe a Strat and a 335. Everything else: Teles, Gretches, Ricks, Ibeys, etc, ...are niche specific tools with sonic limitations, however wonderfully they perform within those niches......

I wouldn't have asked Les Paul to autograph my Les Paul (he signed a Guitar World cover he appeared on for me after I interviewed him; I've framed it). But that said, if I owned a guitar with his autograph -- well, the phrase "cold dead hands" comes to mind. :hank
