Hybrid Slinkys, orange pack. Its all Ive used for years. Except that I replace the 9 and 11 with a 9 1/2 and 11 1/2 (DR). Yeah I know they are bottom of the barrel, etc. but Ive tried many different types, more expensive ones too, and I just like the edge of the EBs.

That's what I use. Now try their pure nickel version if you like smooth!

I've been using 9-46s for as long as I can remember. Ernie Ball, D'Addario, Dean Markley... I'm not super picky.

use 'em, love 'em - sometimes I'm a little too bend crazy for 9's though - then, 10's

Definitely..with LP's face on the cover.

9-46's are my favorite...you do not lose your bottom end, and you can still have the lightness and ease of bending the higher strings.

For kicks some of you should try a 9 1/2 and 11 1/2 (leave the 16 for the G). You know that harmonic that I was reaching for on those pickup soundfiles I did? Believe it or not I cant get it with the 11 but I do with the 11 1/2. Im too much of a wimp to play 10s, I think I like the sound of the 9.5s better anyway

I might have to try that Ed. Too bad you have to scrap a whole set of DR's for the tone.

For what strings cost in Guitarget that's the least of your worries, don't ever move to the UK :)

Actually plaintop, I was able to order a dozen 9 1/2s and a dozen 11 1/2s separately through my the store that had DRs.

Did you have to tweak your intonation and neck when you went to the lighter top .09-.46? I bounce back and forth between .10's and .11's and I always have to re-set. It would be cool to have a easier bending e,b and g and still keep the bottom. Thanks for the heads up.

For those of you that liked the idea of the 9.5 and 11.5 E/B, but did not want to go to the 10-46 set with the 46 low E and replace the E/B, there is an alternative. I don't know what the opinion around here is of D'Addario strings, but I picked up some of something they offer that I'm going to give a try. They have a set called the EXL120+ that goes from 9.5 to 44, the string gauges are 9.5, 11.5, 16, 24, 34, 44. On paper it at least sounds like a good compromise.

PRS strings (D'Addarios) come in 9.5-44, also, if you want to try to make your Les Paul sound JUST LIKE a PRS!!! :lolspin

Okay, so that wasn't funny. I blame Kreig.

EB 9-46 are fine, I just find that DR .010's are great now that I'm used to 'em.

In fact I broke a .010, tried an .011 on the high E and found this gives that string a bit more "push" that was missing.

Maybe every guitar "wants" its own set of gauges, to play with a certain tension and optimal rigidity. I'd like to see how my LP responds to an even more manly .012 set.
