• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Trying to identify this particular Burst

Hey guys/gals,

Just wanted to see if someone could help me in identifying the serial number and backstory of this particular Burst just by looking at the top. I saw this at the Amigo guitar show in Nashville/Franklin, TN in 2015. I perused the "Burst faces" section of the website (all 3 years) and never made, what I feel anyway, a positive match. It was listed as a '59 and was selling for $325K at the time. I found this particular Burst very intriguing since I've never seen one with a top quite like it. I've kind of become obsessed with it. In a good way of course. Anyway, thanks for any help or info anyone could provide.

Cheers,
Scott

Sorry, don't know. But, why don't you contact Jim's Guitars? They might have a record of it.

Reminds me very much of 8 5388(an all time fave burst of mine) or to a lesser extent 8 5386 another famous '58.........but this is a '59 as you say??

I suppose you could contact jimsguitars.com and ask them for the serial number; 50/50 shot

couple of interesting things I noticed:
(1) nibs are gone so must be a re-fret
(2) near total lack of annual ring in the top which is fairly typical of 'quilt' maple

good luck .......

Apparently it had the s/n 9 1244, but per the thread above, the font didn't look right. It used to be on burst serial but has since been removed.
