Very nice indeed. And a little more of the same would make it look even better! :salude

Cover fretboard, pickups and headstock/tuners. DON'T let the sun get on them.

Thanks for the comments:)

I did shield the fretboard and headstock but not the tuners as they are 80’s Schallers and were snot green in colour.

Like most people I’d have preferred a black custom but in 85 (pre web and E-bay etc) and where I live LPs were a bit thin on the ground. This one was bought from a colleague who needed cash quick

That looks great!

Now for the real question, People here have been trying to do that with he newer re-issues with no such result.

The finish is obviously 'different' than the older Gibsons.

What do you think the difference is?

Actually, as Billy said in his original post, he was inspired by Nicolasrivera, who faded his 2003 LP. Take a look at Nico's reply to this thread: http://www.lespaulforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=158628

Oh.. so it's the Customs that have the little fret nubbie jobbies?!
Stew

I thought all Les Pauls had the fret ends:hmm

I re-fretted the LP myself when I first got it about '85 as it had huge fretwire that must have been replaced the original fretless wonder ones. They were more like toy train tracks and completely flat on the crown. Some damage to the fretboard had already been done hidden by the huge frets - but I can live with that sort of thing.

I finally got to play with a band last night at some local rehearsal rooms – great fun even if I had to blag it a bit. I used my Strat until the last number. With a bit volume the LP sustains forever - Nigel Tuffnall fashion :wow

The guitar does look better with a bit of fade. Just don't take an exacto knife to it:)

Hell of a lot better - Those years ice tea sunburst was a nice color - the RED :jim crayon bursts not so nice....

Yours thinned out pretty nice - you can see the grain....

Just don't put any Orange Glow or Formbys Home Refinisher on it if it loses its sheen........:wank

Billy, and believe me that if i where you i would try to do a refinish on that guitar, gibson really hides some of the wood's beauty in there finished.

I refinished mine and its 100 times better, and it was my first refinish on a les paul and was great fun!!!!

Eh......................:wow
No thanks, I don’t want to make it ‘natural’ so will leave the lacquer that Gibson apperantly used to ruin it in ’71 (vintage :wah )

It was gigged most nights for 14 years around the 'spit and sawdust' Working Men’s Clubs of the North East before I got it – it can get a bit chilly up here. Its now getting out of the house again so should get some 'unnatural' ageing in the future. I was inspired to fade it a bit but that’s all I’m going to do – no scalpels, blowtorches or shoe polish or whatever is going near to it. I personally couldn’t give a shit if it’s got mojo or not, it’s a piece of old wood with strings and metal bits to be played and enjoyed and any mojo is what it sounds like when played (not much in my hands LOL)

Could you please continue your crusade on your thread – spreading the argument over several is like watching a virus spread - thanks :salude

Glad to hear she's getting out of the house as well - she needs to be gigged! If you're ever gigging over Leeds way let me know by the way!

(By the way BP, I'll be getting my Ronson Custom back from the headstock doctor soon, there will be some pics coming your way!)

Sorry to hear that you Ronno LP is at the doctor’s – hopefully it will make a full recovery and I look forward to seeing the pictures.

I did my first ever gig last night and I’ve played the LP constantly for the last few weeks putting real wear onto it. Boy does it sound good playing at volume through my Fender Montreax reverb :wow .

Playing some blues stuff on Free numbers was the best fun I’ve had with my clothes on :)

No worries Fadman. I've live in Gateshead for 21yrs, before that Newcastle for 30yrs. The wife is from Gatehead and her father had trials for Sunderland FC. I'm a proud Geordie but don't buy into this Geordie/Mackam nonesense. I'd sooner see Sunderland stay in the Premiership than go down :)

Could be awhile before we play again as the bas player has to have a hernia op shortly. I only sat in on this gig though it sounds longer term – no name that I know off and its just for fun, charity stuff.
