Had a friend give me a thrashed '67 SG Broken headstock.
Hadn't seen a case in decades. It was leaning against the wall in his garage.
Said living in S.F. in the 70's a junky came dragging it down the road.
Friend bought it for next to nothing. Original t top pickups. Vibrato w/Lyre tail piece.
I took the guitar, worked it over, Replaces pots ,caps, jack, switch, and tuners.
Had '67 engraved into a blank truss rod cover.
Refinished in Polaris White. I held the guitar for a little over 10 years.
When I closed my studio, I decided I needed room more than an SG that really wasn't getting played.
So, I took it back. And gave it back to the guy I got it from.
If I can find some pictures of it I'll post them.

Got the vintage Gibson SGs out for a photo shoot. From left to right: 1961 LP SG (with Les Paul truss rod cover), 1961 LP SG Special (plain truss rod cover but says "Les Paul" in shipping logs), 1962 SG Custom Alpine White, 1963 SG Special Alpine White, 1964 SG Standard.

Wonderful guitars! Being a Santana fan, and not taking away from the others, I can see the draw to the early sg special. Quick question; Is it the angle of the photo, or does the 61 Special have a smaller headstock than it's sg/lp from the same year?

Just for giggles a while back I was curious about the headstock widths of early 60's SG's, as I had seen them wide and narrow. I asked around & posted the question on this Forum, and here is what I found:

'61 SG Std 3.149"
'63 SG Std 3.23"
'61 SG Std 3.188"
'63 SG Std 3.263"
'63 SG Std 3.23"
'65 SG Std 3.25"
'63 SG Jr 3.05" (narrowest)
'65 SG Std 3.25"
'63 SG Jr 3.045"
2020 SG Std 3.196"

For comparison I measured the headstock widths of my Gibsons:
2014 LP R0 3.088"
2006 LP R8 3.110"
2004 LP Jr 3.070"
1969 LP Custom 3.34" (widest)
2007 LP TV Special 3.115"

My SG pile as of today...it is a sickness...LOL

1961 SG/LP Std, Cherry Red, Dual HB JWP Crossroads

1961 SG/LP Std, Cherry Red, Dual PAF

1961 SG Special Cherry Red, Stop Bar/ABR-1, Dual P90’s

1963 SG Jr. converted to “The Fool” specs

1964 SG Jr. Cherry Red single P90

2012 Pete Townsend SG Spec, White, JWP G90’s, The Who Case

I needed to update my insured guitar list to Heritage Insurance, so this was easy.

That lineup of SGs is phenomenal in it's own right, but I'm most green with envy over the Tweed Fenders. ?

I'm having a couple of guitar player friends show up tomorrow, I'll see if they will help with a photo shoot. Sorry for the late reply, my iMac crashed after an update, and I'm just getting up and running on the new one after 4 days with Apple Tech Support.

25 years of collecting them led to that pile, sir! LOL
EDIT: I found this old pic before I got my 2nd 61 SG/LP Std, and my other two Juniors. The three in the middle are mine.
L-R 61 SG/LP w/PAF’s, Fool SG replica, 61 SG LP Special that Pete Thorn is in love with. I haven't git a pic of the Townsend SG Special yet. Enjoy!
