Sorry to hear about the back issue Don. Have you thought about an even lighter guitar for some days? Maybe some sort of SG?

My 2007 R8 is 8lbs 12 oz, but my 1963 Les Paul Junior (SG) is 5 lbs 14 oz!
(My Tele is 6 lbs 13 oz)

EDIT: Never mind man. I just read the ES330 thread. You've got that covered!
Hi! I have three Melody Makers: 2 single cutaways and one double cutaway. They all weigh in at between 5 to 6 1/2 lbs.the dbl cut is actually right inbetween the two single cuts. They were all made in 1961! I’ve probably had 12- 14 Melody Makers in the last 50 years. They use to be really reasonably priced ($150.-300.) Now they are $ 2-3k.

Do we understand whether weight is more of a function of the age of the wood or of its moisture content? Perhaps guitars that ring like a bell are internally drier / rigid that those that do not but not necessarily lighter?

Hi

Go look in the search box, this subject has been beaten to death!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Back in the early 2000s it was getting silly, all guitars varied as they do now at custom shop level but to a lesser degree! some 50s custom where boat anchors!!

For the record, my favorite burst is a locally owned Burst that weighs 7.8 pounds! (weighed on Center City Music's Mettler scale that I bought when he closed.)
