• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

V's and Explorers - hardware options?

I've got a bonus coming end of next month, some of which I can spend on myself:lol2

The Historic V's and Explorers are lookin' pretty good - 'specially the split headstock models - those are the s**t:dude

One problem: do they all come with that fugly *gold* hardware?
:dead:

I have a few of each, once you play them, you won't give a f**k about the gold hardware. They are evil guitars, my spit headstock explorer sounds like it has a 500T in it, and its only a 57 classic.:)spin

Cool - just what I wanted to hear ;)
How do they run, weight-wise? I'm leaning toward the V.

Oh, I'm not a metal player (not that fast, or talented) mostly classic rock and blues - will the lack of maple darken the tone noticably?

V'S are the s**t man,you dont need to be metal head to jam on one-look at albert king or lonnie mack-they are a bit darker sounding but very crisp and smooth at the same time-I have a usa production 67 v ri that I swapped 57 classics into and it still kills for metal but allows me to use it for blues-usually they are feather light and very responsive.
like RICH says, once you start rippin' you wont care about the gold hardware-:dude

"EC" Eric Clapton Explorer is Tres Cool

These are currently in limited Custom Shop production & are awesome. The one I played was well balanced, lightweight & screamed ala Johnny Winter.

All mahagony. No flame however!

These are beautiful guitars if you like the Explorer look. Personally I prefer the EC to the split headstock only because that model just looks plain wierd & is heavier. The EC Explorer is also not grossly priced up for the limited run. I intend to buy one ASAP.

V's are nice also, but I am sold on the Eric Clapton Explorer just a wee bit more than the new Custom Shop V's.
