Moving forward to the streaming age.. the arrogance of EMI managements failure embrace this new format was ultimately the demise of the company. Unfortunately this medium was also the death of the music business.. as the deals made by the companies with streaming platforms cut out the artists. As much as this platform is ideal for the consumer, it’s utterly devastating for the (legacy) artist.

Yeah, they should have consistently offered great streams and downloads under DRM using an authentication code when included with every CD, but they were reacting to the tech not on top of innovation in order to, let's say 'control' it, so the ability to rip came. Perhaps given the open source community and the nature of the digital medium there was not way to absolutely forestall the end-run of ripping to ripoff, but they might have been able to convince consumers to 'play authentic' if they could see their way to reducing the margins, instead of decimating their own business model in the process of keeping 'the old way'.... spilt milk now. Ooops.

Rick Wakemen opined on how to re-kindle the overall listening experience in his recent conversation with Rick Beato, at the end:

I love the portability of MP3s, having a service like Amazon Music Unlimited, where virtually every popular album is available on demand, and SiriusXM, and I'm willing to accept the tradeoffs in sound quality for the benefits of complete mobility and variety.

Got a DAC?

Might want to look into acquiring a reclocker.

What is a reclocker?

I have maybe 4 thousand albums and then a few thousand EPs or 12" singles.

Buying an album was exciting, especially is the band was big on packaging. Kids today don't know what they missed out on. KISS albums were always packed with stuff. Led Zeppelin II was interesting. Iron Maiden's were cool. Joy Division had one of the all time great covers. I still see that t shirt around. Boston and Journey did a good job with theirs - keeping with a theme. I liked Rush's Moving Pictures. Ronnie Montrose started a band called Gamma. Gamma2 is really different (shark fins in the yard). Some that everything thinks are iconic I never cared for - like the Nirvana baby one.

I keep thinking to get some wall frames for them and hang some up.
