• THIS IS THE 25th ANNIVERSARY YEAR FOR THE LES PAUL FORUM! PLEASE CELEBRATE WITH US AND SUPPORT US WITH A DONATION TO KEEP US GOING! We've made a large financial investment to convert the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and recently moved to a new hosting platform. We also have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
  • WE HAVE MOVED THE LES PAUL FORUM TO A NEW HOSTING PROVIDER! Let us know how it is going! Many thanks, Mike Slubowski, Admin
  • Please support our Les Paul Forum Sponsors with your business - Gary's Classic Guitars, Wildwood Guitars, Chicago Music Exchange, Reverb.com, Throbak.com and True Vintage Guitar. From personal experience doing business with all of them, they are first class organizations. Thank you!

You get 1 out of 5 choices between recent/current Gibson USA (non CS or Murphy) LP's for free. Which do you choose, and why that 1?

It doesn't matter if it is one of the Modern, '50s, '60s, Tribute, Light, a Signature, special dealer model, or Axcess versions, as long as it fits into one of those five types.

The Standard.. as it’s the benchmark for Gibson LPs.. they are well built .. all be it tweaked to suit. It will serve any player well for studio and live work for decades.

FYI: Customs and Axcess are Custom Shop not USA. I'd have the Axcess to increase overall versatility of my stable.

If USA only, then I'd like a New Supreme, in Lefty, of course. It's a Modern with the heel carve, that's the main motivation. Already have other bases covered.

Got ya. I thought that the LPC and Axcess were offered as a regular production model. My bad. Tbt I am basically trying to avoid the Historic and R4-R0 models many would name that are on the upper end of pricing.

If we’re talking USA I personally enjoy the Junior because I don’t get pissed at myself if she gets a whiskey ding.

Lightweight, 50s neck profile and price point all rolled into not treating her like a lady. 👍🏻

I’d gladly get another.

That would be my choice too.

Preferably one like this. It would most likely have the honor of being only the second LP I ever owned for any length of time that I did not pull the pickups out of and replace. The other was a Made to Measure 3xP90 LPC. It would be my prototypical Les Paul Les Paul.

The others have all had TV Jones and Seymour Duncan Dearmond Dynasonic clones, Lollar and Seymour Duncan Gibson A5 Staple clones, SK Guitar Designs Dual Tone II's, a Lollar Gold Foil clone, a TV Jones Supertron clone, or a Vintage Gibson Tarback swapped into the neck or bridge position.

If someone was just giving me a new one for free from that list (ie, the OP’s list)… then the Custom. It costs way more than anything else on that list (because it’s a CS not USA, but that’s been covered) and thus has more resale value should I ever decide I didn’t want it—I could sell it and buy anything else on that list if I wanted and have some money to spare. ;)

Seriously though, I am a big fan of Customs and I love ebony fretboards. I currently have three in black, so if I got another I’d like it to be Tobacco Sunburst. 🚬

Luckily, none of those will do much for me.

I am browsing next level up.

I would like a 50s P-90 Standard under 9 lbs, if such a thing exists, though.

Far left is a Less Plus which weighs ~8 lbs even. It sounds and plays great and even has some finish checking.

The TV Yellow Special is ~ 8 lbs too. Also sounds and plays great. They only improvement would be if it weighed less.

I've had and still have some awesome guitars, LP's and others. My P90 Special gets the most playtime though, especially now that I swapped in a Duncan A5 Staple clone in the rhythm pickup slot.

Do they even make a USA Custom? If so, I'm a Custom/ebony fretboard kind of guy, so it would have to be that. If not, the Standard.

Not anymore. The Custom used to be a USA model, but in 2003 it was moved to the Custom Shop and has remained there ever since—both regular Customs and reissues (of course). Probably the closest thing to a Custom nowadays from the USA shop is the Supreme.

post #15 ..there’s always one in the crowd that can’t play well 😂…going that route I’d like a translucent cherry firebird one ..but it wasn’t on the list ..however, the dc special post #9 looks cool but I’d prefer a different finish (tv/gold ?)
