• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Sorry to do this again @maplebaby, but since all I had were old picture of my 355, I took a few new ones:

killer guitar sir! Did you find it or order it? Love the Bluesbreaker amp, sweet rig!

Thank you maplebaby, I appreciate it!

I ordered it. It’s an Alex Lifeson “Inspired By” that Gibson released in ‘08. I fell in love with the guitar when I saw Alex walk-out on stage back in ‘77 while RUSH was on their “A Farewell To Kings” tour and had wanted one ever since. When I heard that Gibson was going to release the model (only 300 were made), I ordered it immediately. Hard to believe, but it’ll be 18 years old next month.

I don’t know if you heard about it or not, but it has the infamous volute issue. Gibson put the volute too close to the first fret, which is a problem for some, but it doesn’t bother me much. Which is more infuriating, to me anyway, is that instead of taking ownership of the shoddy workmanship, Gibson chose to blame Alex instead, hiding behind the fact that he approved it. They wouldn’t cover it under warranty either. “Bush League” IMHO.

I’ve always been a Marshall guy, so I love my “Mini Bluesbreaker” too! It’s a 1974X and out of the 3 Marshalls I have (YJM100 and Class 5 are the other two), I play through that one the most.

This was back when I bought it. I had been bugging the guy for 8 years. The last pic is recent.
Please remind us of the details of that 335, namely, what year is it (1963, if I remember) and when did you acquire it? Have you made any modifications?
Your 1996 (?) R9 is also very nice, but that's for another thread!

Don't think anyone posted a studio yet? This is my 2016 ES-335 Studio. I'm surprised how good this really is. Definitely not a second class citizen in a sea of 335s. Not at all like other Gibson studio models. Great bang for the buck. All construction and build quality of a standard 335.

I always thought '63, serial # says '64. The original owner switched to drums. He ordered it with a vibrola because he was into Duane Eddy. It's been Grovered, but I have the original tuners, and the engraved pickguard. The R8 is a '98.

Thanks for the interesting info on the 335! I’ve always dug the lyre-style vibrola on it, it’s a cool look!

Also, thanks for the correction on the ‘98 R8 details. That big ribbon maple is spectacular! Maybe that’s why I remember it as a ‘59.

You have exquisite taste; Your pair is similar to my own set: 1959 ES345 and 1995 R9.

Not a Gibson but a kit. This was a basic shell without even the screw holes pre-drilled, just the pickup routes. It's a glued neck which was amazingly tight before I glued it. I threw all the parts away and replaced them with Gotoh nickel bridge, stoptail and machines. I put in a pair of SD Seth Lovers with 500k post and Orange Drops wired 50s style, I finished the body and neck with nitro and added abalone dots. The headstock is black with my family name (not Gibson). After a lot of fretwork its a great guitar to play and sounds really good . Maybe not a Gibson but still fun to assemble and unique.39982803_317880815650153_1812049828918591488_n.jpg
