• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

A very early 1958 burst?

Some photos of a '54 Strat from his website were used in a bogus Ebay auction last week, he may be getting jumpy. Not that I could blame him.

I think if it were mine, I would retire those pickup rings. :) They look "tired".
I would leave the rings on the guitar. Taking them off and storing them would allow them to shrink. The holes would no longer line up rendering them useless. Resized the pics.

Interesting- I wonder if it might not have been misnumbered- the fade looks like it might be from the later '58 to '59 type dye, seems like (most of?) the earlier 58's had a more fade-resistant red in the burst...

I have this guitar with me at the moment. I wish I knew more about it. It seems genuine but the serial no is from 58. I was told it was a 56 GT conversion from way back.

Do you have any cavity photos?
