• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Barb's #1 was a '58.

Joannes Battista Guadagnini of Cremona
1758

Sorry about the reflections. We were in a bank vault.

Amazing flame. :wow

Interestingly enough, good flamey figuring is also prized by violin players & collectors. You'd figure that they wouldn't be as shallow as us stupid electric guitarists, but yeah. :lol2

Try walking up to a classically trained symphonic violinist, and say "Hey, nice fiddle." See what happens. ;)

"Whata ya give me for my Burst?"
Then, see what happens. :toobad :bonk

Wow!!!
My violin book says Giambattista and Lorenzo Guadagnini studied under and worked with Stradivarius for a very long time.
It does not mention Joannes who must have been a brother or son.
A few other Guadagninis are mentioned. THere were alot of fiddle makers in the family.

Geesh...they must be very thinned skinned....but no matter, it's still a pretty FIDDLE, even if it is a Strativarious....:lol

I dig the flame up the neck and, I believe, the headstock. Headstock? Is that what they are called on a violin?

I should be sleeping, but Jet lag – can’t sleep.

Tonefiend, I did some research before my trip. The name thing threw me until I found one site that said he was christened “Giambattista”, but was also known as “Joannes Battista”, and “Giovanni Battista”.

Her #2 was a Ventapani from either 1801 or 1807 (one document identified it as an 1801, another as an 1807). That one has almost no figure on the back, but sports a beautifully figured neck. I was told that her ex (himself a world famous concert violinist) actually preferred the Ventapani’s tone over that of the Guad’s.

It was a real treat to see those instruments in person.

I think it's called the "scroll".
