I did notice that the carve is different than any of my other guitars. Its WAY different than my 2008 R0. I haven't spent enough time with the new 95 to tell where the differences are yet.
Do you have any pics of 0 5008? I'd love to see them!
This thread has existed about 9 months now. quote)

I've been planning to have some prints digitized since this thread began :wah
I'm glad you've discovered as much as you have about these rare beasts. I really would have liked to have kept mine.
I'll get the ball rolling on pics and I'll also find the Murphy quote. :jim

Being on the hunt...got this email.

Not the first time I heard of a '95 R0 round here. I must be looking/hunting in the wrong places. Id' like to see some proof. This would be the place if ever...

Anyone here, there, or anywhere ever owned a 93-94-or 95 "Historic R0"? As emailer claims. 2003-2005s do not count (how does Gibson handle the different years anyway? Ex: between a 97 & a 2007.. lets say 0 7145?)

They must not have made very many? 15 years R0's in existance? Surely there must be a photographic proof this email from a LPF member could not provide. Photos are "necessary", in this day and age imho.

Or, throw in the mix, who has seen one for sale in the last 15 years? Photos vs rumors. 10+ years of Ebay. The advent of GBASE. I've searched LPF data banks to no avail :hmm . Really would like to see one. More the merrier. show me. thanks in advance, nothing kinky ok? maybe a $ reward for each photo?

Hi. This is my R0. Not 93' or 94' but 95' 0 5009
She is so beautiful. Everytime I play her, I feel so happy. She is so hot!:)

Hi !
I have recently bought my Les Paul which was sold as a 1991 Gibson Les Paul Classic Plus because the Vintage Guitar shop owner saw 2 potentiometers from 1990 and 2 from 1991.
The S/N : 0 3228 , BUT a completely different font as used on the Classics and of course :
Hoe can a guitar from 1990 get 1991 potentiometers or vice versa .…. So my Guitar tech told me to buy it immediately ….. I already loved the color so sound and playability he would adjust…. Guitar played terrible when I bought it : strings had a very low action ?
After 2 weeks of research and contacting Gibson and stuff :

- S/N font matches the ones used for the R8, R9, R0 built before the Historic period started in late 1993….. the so called Pre Historic designed by Tom Murphyand a period in which there were lots of experiments with names in the cavity , logos and stuf….and NOT matching the Classics built in that period .

- vintage logo

- No Classic in the cavity , only ‘Amber’ and a strange looking signature from probably the builder ?

- the Mahogany body is RED instead of the brown which the classics have with this Amber color…….

- and some more little differences which most people would not even notice as I have found only one other old ad I which the Amber Les Paul with the same font and logo and Red back was sold as a Classic Plus from 1990…..which it is not :)

Anyhow, my guitar tech has a 1992 Classic plus and his brother a 1993 Classic and he played some more classics but mine does sound nor feel anything like those …..

here are some pics :

and a video :

I understand this thread is very old and it's up my alley.

I own a 1993 R6 prehistoric with the R6 stamped not penciled as I've seen but stamped in the neck pickup route.

This guitar was purchased in 2008 from eBay and was advertised as a 1959. Once I received it, I knew it was not a 59 as I just sold my 59 vos a week prior.

I paid $2000 for this 1993. I didn't begin to research what this model until 2014 and concluded it would be a classic premium plus until I seen the R6 stamp. That stamp changed everything and finally found out it is a 1960 prehistoric reissue.

Neck is pencil thin for sure. Pointers are sharp and can cut you good.

It's been a love hate relationship but I finally fell in love with it for good.

I've found two 1993 R6 for sale on Reverb however one has the R6 penciled in and the other is stamped like mine. Price start from $13k but this model is not known/rare or however you want to call it. These prehistoric are extremely underrated and is almost never spoken of. The talk if the town is always 1959 models, it's like 1960 is a no no.

My guitar came with the original pickups and guitar case that has the made in Canada sticker. Pickups are long gone but sounded decent and really felt they were 57 Classics. They have custom pickups I've wound myself. Unfortunately no paperwork.

Swapped the bridge with a Faber as someone added a few extra cuts in the original saddles. Still have this.

1 Tone pot has been swapped but still have it. Original pots are super fast and read under 300k. If I recall the volume reading was between 250k & 275k. They sound great.

Has the ink stamp serial just like the early 90-93 with the big thick font.

Will not post serial number info.

Can post photos once the weather cleans up. Again will not post serial number.

I do see some scribble in the control cavity but can't make out what it is unless I remove the pots.

BTW, original pots had that metal plate which I still have but is no longer installed. Also forgot the 3 way switch came broken and was swapped but still have original.

Pics Wanted! Hope the weather cooperates soon... good luck.

Congrats and enjoy!

Also my R6 has short neck tennon and no custom shop decal of any kind.

Thank you. It's currently raining by I might have a photo I've taken 5 years ago and has cream color bobbins.

I'll post those reverb links today.

Here is the first Reverb post. The seller had dropped the price and even changed the description to market as 1959 and this was recent. He likely did this to get to sold as I recall the original price around $18k. Again this is clearly a underdog/unknown model as the standard is 1959 and nothing else. My R6 has the same stamp and no pickguard.

This R6 has a penciled R6 in the neck and pickguard installed.

Historic reissues........starting in 93 ALL have a long neck tenon.........All forms of everything else do not.........Classic PP models back then were commonly misrepresented as Historics.......no long tenon?........not a Historic............period............Classic PP models will have LPCPP hand inked in the control cavity and finish.....ie HCSB (heritage cherry sunburst) etc...........with an ink stamp.......

The unicorn is the 1993 1960 reissue with the R6 in the neck pickup cavity.

This is a short neck tenon. Just so anyone in the future who reads this, this model is not a classic. It was made during the transition or slightly before the transition of the historic series. Hence the prehistoric.

I consider it the earliest or first edition of the 1960 reissue. However I don't know the dates of the earliest 1960 reissue unlike the 1959.
Please don't confuse or include the classic series in this.
