Every guitar has a unique voice, and I'd say my Les Paul favs would be:

Clean - Luther Allison and Grady Martin

Dirty - Gary Moore and Dickie Betts

What are yours?

Back when I cared about such things, I decided Duane Allman's LP on the Fillmore East album sounded the best.

Fillmore East, hell yeah! But the first one that came to mind, for me, was Clapton/Beano album

Hard to beat the tone on Live at Fillmore East. For some with more gain, check out the sound samples on the Komet amp website. There are a lot of different guitars used. Listen to them all. But for this thread, check out the Constellation clips called Heavy Tune. These are done with a 58 RI with Rolph pups.

1. The Reverend Willie G on all EARLY ZZ Top
2. Gary Richrath REO Live
3. Marc Ford-Black Crowes albums
4. Jimmy Page Led Zeppelin IV and TSRTS
5. ABB Fillmore shows and Eat A Peach (for peace)
6. JMBB with EC -Beano

These are not ranked in any particular order by better or best. Just as I thought of them.

I agree with several of the above, including The Reverend and Billy Duffy.

One of the favourites on my hard drive is the band Flash Lightning, which I actually found through it's guitarist who is a LPF member. Can't remember the name, embarrasingly enough.

Joe Walsh "Rocky mountain way". The defining classic LP rock sound.
Allmans " jelly jelly " and "Whipping post"
Anything by Warren Haynes

>Billy Duffy, The Cult
I just worked with the Cult. Billy was having a bit of pickup trouble with
his Gretch. He turned to us and said " All of my life I've played a Gibson,
and I do one bloody song with this thing and I'm married to it for life !"
Truly a memorable moment for me.

He did a few tunes with the Gretch, but used the Les Paul a lot as well.
Great show, if they play in your area and you're a fan, you won't be let down.
(I don't remeber the details of his rig..... sorry in advance..)
