I just bought a 2014 Les Paul custom Lite. I was drawn to it partially because it seemed that it was the only Les Paul with a crown inlay since the ‘68. I see Sweetwater is selling these also………

Like that gold hardware. Is it missing a knob?

These had only one tone knob for both pickups and a mini-toggle switch to switch the pickups from humbuckers to single coil……..

Anyone have a real 68 with the crown on the headstock?
My 68 Les Paul Goldtop. Left the factory on the 15th August 1968. Purchased on my 20th Birthday on 3rd August 1970
Fitted with B3 Bigsby as standard, but I changed to a stop tail piece and Tune-0-matic bridge with nylon saddles from the Gibson factory. I think the Bigsby models were for export as I have not seen too many pictures of this type. P.S I live in Australia.

A friend had one in the 80s , pretty um, interesting neck profile. It went from a narrow mandolin U to a tree trunk by the 12th fret. The Larry Carlton 335 got the profile by the nut dead on.

I had a 68 goldtop 522xxx with the same type neck profile as you mentioned. Like a U-shaped toothpick at the nut to the tree trunk towards the neck joint. Almost like the other Gibson electronics of the period especially the ES and SGs guitars. But from what is said several people worked on and sanded/shaped the necks. I can’t remember who but one of the older long standing Gibson employees mentioned that he could always tell between neck profiles and which employee made them.

That’s a nice guitar. Has the greening at the upper bout that can be only produced through natural aging and constant playing. How is the heel shape and neck profile on the guitar? Used to have an early one a 501xxx shipped in September 68 from what I remember. It had the proverbial baseball bat neck large rounded profile but comfortable to play and the heel was a 50s large C-shape as opposed to the D-shaped as used on the 68-69 Standards.
