I’m on vacation with my family and got to meet up with a fellow forum member and burst owner. He was kind enough to bring over his burst, which is an original 1959 with original double white PAFs. I got to spend the afternoon with it and it was absolutely spectacular. Unplugged, it resonated like nothing else. Plugged into a nice tube amp, it was absolutely glorious. I’m at a loss for words, as playing one has been on my bucket list for decades. This one is relatively lightweight and just sings like nothing else I’ve played. This is definitely one of the good ones! Here are a few photos…

Gorgeous guitar. I never played a burst, but played a could vintage Strat and ES335 when I worked for Manny's Music. I could not believe how they each resonated and filled the room like I'd never heard before. Immediately put them away because I can't afford to get hooked on vintage guitars any more than I can heroin. 😂

I like and admire the generosity of your friend!
Please describe the neck profile. '59 'Burst necks come in several varieties.
Are the frets original?
What amp did you play through?
That's a fine looking 'Burst!

AND...what was the first tune you played on it?

The neck profile felt slightly slimmer than my R9 Joe Perry Limited from 2013. Just a tad more similar to let’s say an R0 neck. Although, it had a bit more shoulder on the thumb side. I believe it had been refretted, but expertly so, and it played phenomenally up and down the neck. I played it through a very old black panel Princeton Reverb. The first song I played was Steppin’ Out!!

Probably would have chosen the same song. Cool experience to have!

Wow, just wow. That is one gorgeous Les Paul. ❤️‍🔥

It is also one of the few Les Pauls I would never change the pickups on, and I always change out the pickups on Les Pauls as a staunch P90, and alnico rod style single coil fanatic.

^^ it was his idea to photograph it against the Palmetto tree. I was nervous as hell!!

LOL, you're killing me! I've leaned it against all kinds of things. Besides, that's not the first time that I've seen a Palmetto.

I've come back more than once to look at this Burst. It's perfect in every way. I bet that guitar screams when cranked up. I love that guitar. Thanks for sharing!
