Hi,

I've read a lot of bashing of the 2015 LP lineup and to be fair, Gibson made a huge mistake. I don't think it was the radical changes alone because that is a matter of personal preference. I suspect it was the lack of choice and the 29% price increase that was the major insult to what could have otherwise been a minor injury.

Well.. I have to sincerely thank you all for the bashing you gave Gibson and the wider guitar community who voted with their wallets and boycotted the lineup because the effect of that was to provoke a massive price reduction to deal with the backlog of slow moving stock here in the UK (and probably everywhere else), with the result that I have recently walked away with a stunning specimen of a 2015 Classic in Cherry Burst for less than the price of a USA bog-standard Fender, or any other guitar in that same class. In fact, as I traded a Strat I never played much anymore, I only had to add a couple of hundred quid. So I feel like I have walked away with a lot of guitar for the money.. so again Thanks!

Here is my quick take. The fit & finish on the one I got is flawless, In fact I've never seen such precision on an LP before. It's almost PRS like. I had to sniff it just to make sure it was nitro.. and yes.. it has that sweet sweet smell (you know what I mean). Moving onto the features that seem to polarize people;

The wider neck. This one is probably the biggest issue for many as you cannot undo it. I like it. I'm no shredder, but I appreciate having a big flat fretting space. It doesn't suit the monkey-grip style of holding, but I find it excellent for thumb behind the neck playing.

The zero fret adjustable nut. This is a great feature and I hope they keep offering it (if you want it) because I find it hugely practical for getting the guitar set up exactly how you like it.

The GForce tuner. This is no biggie because you can remove it if you really don't like it, but I say give it a chance because in my experience so far, it really does work! Although manual tuning is easy enough, you forget it is there until you need to re-tune. I told myself I would remove it, and maybe I will one day if it breaks or stops working, but until it that day, I am enjoying the convenience.

The Logo. Ok it is fugly, but you get over that really quickly because you don't see it when playing. (That's what you got a guitar for in the first place right ;)

The hologram. Yes, it's a bit cheesy but you forget it is there even quicker.

In summary. Because of the price drop, I think it is a great guitar for the money because I like the different features and care less about the visuals. I should add at this point that I have an R7 Goldtop and an Ebony Custom. Both as traditional as they come so I still have that fix. I may even go as far as to say that if you have never owned a Les Paul, do not go for the 2015 as your first because it's not 'traditional' in feel or vibe and you owe it to yourself to have that experience. But if you already have those in your stable, I think the 2015 does bring something different to the mix that has some real utility to it.

(To overstate it for clarity, ONLY now.. after the big price drop)

So back to the question on the thread, does anyone else actually like the 2015 LP?

Regards,
Malc

No. And I am starting to hear of "limited runs of old spec guitars" being offered in certain quarters. I think they blew it and now it is time to pay the piper.

I picked up a tv yellow jr. I really like the wider fretboard. However, I first played guitar on a classical instrument during a class in college, and I have big hands. Due to this, I prefer the extra room...

And let me qualify again. If you like them fantastic! I think it is great you have a choice now with some more modern specs on an older format. I just think pushing most of the line there was a mistake. I think they should do a full shredder thing like several here have mentioned as well, but I don't think 75% of the line needs to go there.

I have a 2015 Studio Desert Burst. I bought it used for cheap off someone who was very upset with it.

One of the tuning pegs stripped after about 4 weeks, also prior to this it was difficult to stay in tune. I didn't like the system at all. Replaced with Grover locking tuners.

The zero fret on the nut also wore grooves in it and would slip in and out of the groove when you bended. My tech filed the grooves deeper and it now acts like a regular nut with the ability to adjust height. I like this feature.

The signature isn't that bad. I don't hate it. The hologram is also a moot point as it is on the back.

I like the wider fretboard (as a bass player and someone with fat fingers) and everyone who plays it thinks its fine.

So all in, it took a bit of modifications but I now love the guitar. The 57 pups are great and it plays flawlessly from jazz to metal.

I wouldn't buy another with the auto tuner but might splurge on a high end sprint run.

Cheers!

No, I would not consider a 2015. If the shops are having a hard time moving the 2015's, so will I, when it comes to sell. In any case, I just dont like the toyish features, on the 15's. It works for you, so play and enjoy.

That's fine, I can sit comfortably among those that can't stand the design and Gibson thoroughly deserve the grief they got even if I do like it. You can't alienate that much market without the backlash. With any luck, they wont do it again anytime soon.

I've only recently picked up on other folks experience with the brass zero fret grooving and pinching. I will have to keep a look out for that on my guitar and look to the other threads for advice if that happens.

I bought my first les paul (2015 lpm model in heritage cherry) a couple of months ago. I've played acoustic guitars most of my adult life and this is my first venture into the electric guitar world. It's a beautiful instrument and plays well. G-force tuner performs as designed. Couldn't be happier.

I have a friend who's just bought one and he loves it so far, mostly because of the nut and wider neck.

Will be interesting to see how long the tuners last though.

I haven't had the chance to play one yet, but I'm looking forward to it soon. Interested to see how the neck feels and how the nut deals with tuning.

I have recently bought a 2015 Les Paul Less Plus. I think this is a superb guitar. I have also a LP standard from 1993 and a Sig T from 2013. Sig T was today swapped to a 1980 LP Standard, so i have played older ones also. I like the almost perfect finish. The wider fretboard does not bother me. I like the beautiful MOP inlays. And the Gforce... I usually have a little time to play and not so regularly. But when i play the guitar i usually play songs in different tunings. So it is essential to me that i dont have to tune myself just push the button and done. the whole guitar is about the quality for me. I like it very much. Ok, the price... I'm from Hungary. A new Les Paul Less costs about 600.000 HUF (2000 USD). The average wage here 155.000 HUF (520 USD). So thisi is extremly expensive. Fortunatelly can buy guitar from ebay....

I just picked up one of these from AMS. "Traditional Classic" they are calling it, and I think it started as a run for Sam Ash stores. It's going for $1,999.00, but I picked up a dent&scratch for significantly cheaper than that. I've only had it 2 days and it is fantastic. This model does away with all of the cheesy 2015 stuff, except the G-Force. G-Force wouldn't be my choice, but I'm gonna give it a chance.

Other than the G-Force, this Traditional Classic is great and hopefully it's a sign that Gibson has recognized the 2015 lineup was a turd.

Yep!

Love my 2015 Classic in Vintage burst with ´57 Classic and a Super ´57.
But then necks are really important to me and this was my first Les Paul.

But I think you forgot to mention the case! It's really nice and feels like it will protect my guitar well.

The things I hope they'll keep is the zero-nut fret and the removable pick guard.
The rest: neck, G-Force should be optional or at least made for certain models.

I heard that some people had a problem with the zero-fret nut, but that Gibson had replaced those nuts free of charge.
I think it's a great idea and will offer more precision when setting it up.

Since this thread lacks photos, here's my Classic.

I do love it, and I think it is a great guitar. As you said, I appreciate the backlash, because its price, which began in $1.300 (I think) went down to $1.075, and I see it advertised in $1.045, lol...I am pretty happy with mine, and guess what, all the bashing about all stupidities from traditionalists, and the 2016 model is already being advertised...the same shit as ever, but with an even higher ($1.500) price, I love my 2015 Midnight Manhattan, and it is a keeper.

So to all those traditionalist dumbasses, your loss. Back to the same thing ever, only with a hugher price. Some of us will be laughing maybe, 30 years from now, when someone says "I am glad you were one of the relatively few who liked the 2015 100th anniversary, because now in 2045 these ones are relatively scarce", lol...

I traded in a '93 Les Paul Studio on a used 2015 Classic. The finish is pristine, the sound is terrific, and I'm very happy with it overall--the neck reminds me of the 1976 Standard that I had all those years ago.
