I really like my '15 LP Special DC. Got it on clearance, and wasn't sure if I would be able to bond with it or not, but I really dig it.

I thought about buying one of those when they were heavily discounted but I just cant get into a LP without a pick guard. Shallow but true.

Here are a few pics of my 2015 Less+. The more I play it, the more I love it. I am really enjoying the pickups...I expected them to be pretty good, but they are exceeding my expectations! And I will soon be used to the neck...of that I am certain. I'm also finding the ability to split the coils more useful than I expected. I'm getting some great clean tones in the middle position with one of the volumes rolled back to 8 or 9, depending on whether I want more neck or more bridge...surprisingly nice tones!

So I can confidently say the guitar is exceeding my expectations. And even if it had just met my expectations, I would still be satisfied!

Like I said the neck is something I really like on my Junior. I wouldn't want it to be the standard LP neck size but as something different I really like it. It's really comfortable for me personally and I tend to like skinnier necks.

Agreed, I really like it. I've wanted a Les Paul with a Heritage Cherry Sunburst and bound edges for a long time and am very happy to finally have one, and one that's done so nicely!

I was pleasantly surprised by the 2015 gold case. Very sturdy, and has a huge storage area for accessories.

theyre fine as far as function goes but do you like the way they look? I know it's been said a million times but they really do look like Spock's coffin. Mine was also bent around the edges, the metal lip part, when I got it, I think it happened in shipping. It's not a big deal but doesn't exactly inspire confidence as far as durability goes.

i was just looking at mine and from the side it looks like an old suitcase. I very much prefer the old tan or black cases.

Does anyne know if Gibson still uses these cases or did they go back to the older styles on the 16s?

Lol, meaning the burst still has lots of colour but is a really soft transition (the opposite of a clownburst!) - I know I couldn't think of another word! :hee

He said 'pre loved' meaning He wasn't the first owner. I think he still has it?

Gotchya! Most use the term Gradation or I use to call it the feathering. Those old "Clownburst" had a nice gradation when new. The weaker or less stronger color areas always fade out first. I really like the "Soft Burst" thing you mention. That effect is so beautiful on a well executed Burst. My Faded Tobacco Burst on the 2013 R9 I have caught my attention just because the color was bang on to my old 59 and the 57 ES225 I have. That transition from strong dark color to bright yellow is the best part.

As for the 2015's I like them. They have things that vreally make me understand the reason and am OK with it. I like the wider neck, I prefer the frets cut over the binding and the Tuner thing and graphic 2015 things I think are cool as it was a nice celebration of Les. No one has to have one that doesn't want to have one and for those that do, they should feel free to enjoy them. The case is alright with me, beats that POS Gigbag.

There you go! That's exactly what I meant re. "Soft Burts", and put so much better! Cheers. :jim

agree 100% with everything you say. As for the case, first and foremost it's a case, it has a simple job to do - keep my guitar safe in transit and provide me with enough space to keep the gubbins I need to take with me. It does all of that as well if not better than any other case I have. Secondly, I normally have three or four guitars with me on the back seat of the car. Every other case - leather, vinyl and fabric - I have now has minor scruff marks, scratches and wear from the feet, hinges etc. of the other cases, not this one! I really like it! It's funny how once something gets a negative name, like "Spocks coffin" how that becomes the received wisdom and people can't get past it! For example, every other guitarist who has played my Lester (and doesn't read Forums) thought the GForce was great (and couldn't stop playing with it!) - I've tried it against lots of different tuners with other musicians and it has always been bang on! Back to the case, I'm not a Trekkie, so the Spock image didn't occur to me till I read it on a forum - my first reaction was that it has a kind of 50s/60s car, Caddilac/muscle car hood vibe. But anyway, the bottom line is it does its job and so far does it better than a traditional style case I've had.

Yes and no!

For the T model they went back to the same cases (and gig bags) but for the HP line they came up with a new case.

Doesn't it look snazzy?
I have not heard many thoughts on it though and hardly seen one in the flesh.
But I do wonder how it will age...

As a first time Les Paul buyer myself, I did not care so much for the 60s slim taper type necks, and the 50s were always a bit too batty for me. The 2015 neck just fit my hand perfectly.
I was going to buy a Studio in the beginning of 2015, but then family vacation took over and there was no money left after....Lucky me. :peace2

Instead I got the money a few months later when they slashed the prices and then a Classic was in my budget.
I've posted a photo of it before, but I recently went and put some covers on the pickups. To me it completes the look.

Before I was also a real sucker for the vintage/tobacco type sunburst and really liked me some flames. But after reading up on plain tops I kinda like'em too.
And it feels like my Classic has both a little flame and a little plain top going on with that nice drop burst. I also got the new titanium nut from Gibson. Recently I also read about a nut replacement in TUSQ. Any insights on that? Good? Bad? Doesn't really matter now that I have one in titanium?

thanks for this, have been thinking about putting Pup covers on, so good to be able to see what they look like - which ones did you get? Where the sizes the same for both pups?

i have the Tusq nut, to me it takes some of the metallic tone out (no big surprise) and gives a more creamy classic LP tone. TBH you may as well get one (I have the titanium one as well) they are pretty cheap and they click in and drop out easily enough, so can be swapped anytime you like giving options. I changed mine without even taking the strings off! My Tusq nut needed a tiny bit of finessing with a scalpel to make it fit perfectly - it had slightly deformed (pushed out) where they had put one of the grub screws in.

Oh yea!

Now let's see if I can remember....it took a while to get the correct one since they ordered a kit from Gibson, one cover for the neck p/u and one for the bridge. But it turned out they needed 2 covers for the bridge pickup for both. They just flipped it around. I'm not 100% certain it was the bridge pickup cover that was the fit, but it was 2 identical ones, as they were in the old days.
So it was vintage spec, so to say. :teeth

Thanks for the tip with the Tusq nut. I'll try it out.

i still prefer the classic tan or black cases but that case looks a million times better than the gold ones. I wish they had went with that in the first place.
