• THIS IS THE 25th ANNIVERSARY YEAR FOR THE LES PAUL FORUM! PLEASE CELEBRATE WITH US AND SUPPORT US WITH A DONATION TO KEEP US GOING! We've made a large financial investment to convert the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and now have to move to a new host. We also have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
  • WE ARE MOVING THE LES PAUL FORUM TO A NEW HOSTING PROVIDER OVER THE NEXT 5-10 DAYS. We will experience downtime during that period. Please be patient and have confidence that we will return! Many thanks, Mike Slubowski, Admin

That's not to high is it ? I hope that doesn't denote something else ?

Don't know if it's an optical illusion, but the photo of the back of headstock on the 59 shows a long streak down the back of the neck. Truss rod issue?

Anybody else heard of a person carving their name in a 1958-59 les paul Standard???
.
Not a '58 or '59, but Eelco Gelling carved his name in his '60.

Hope the buyer doesn't need to fly with them - bet there's all sorts of explosive / gunpowder residue on them.

And looking at the auction pics, was there a Bigsby on the '58 at one time? There's the weird lack of fading there down by the strap button.

Interesting but a bit more detailed info in the auction description would be cool!

Some sellers seem to believe that more information = lower selling price.

Personally, I'll avoid them under most circumstances.

Anyone know WHY he is selling all this stuff? Just a house cleaning or something more interesting?

I don't know for sure, but I'll speculate. Ted strikes me as a guy who views guitars as tools to make music and little more. With that said, he's apparently well aware of the market value of '50s Gibsons. At his age, his touring and recording career is likely about done and really doesn't need these "tools" anymore.

Ted is only doing what a lot of other 70's rockers are doing which is to eliminate excess or unused items .. G. Geil's sold his 59 years ago .. retirement .. Geddy Lee dumped his ... was collecting dust . Rik Emmett sold most of his collection and now Alex Lifeson of Rush fame is talking of doing the same ... as far as Ted "being skint." are the other gentlemen skint too ? hardly, not even close ... these guys are all approaching their 70's and serious touring again is highly doubtful, they are simply cashing in to use the money for other things ...
