So I definitely misunderstood Florian about the tail peice position, I apologise and must straighten that one out.

So Florian messaged me to explain the repositioning is only very slight, maybe 1mm only.

On the Historics the tail peice is square to the seam of the Maple Cap but on many Originals it is off set ever so slightly toward the bridge.

Definitely not parallel to the bridge as I had wrongly said.

I'm pleased to announce we have another update.

I'm amazed how quick Florian got it stripped. That must have been hard work.

Incredible, looks cool. Not that I'm going to do it with this one but I've always liked the idea of a stripped top ala Jeff Beck.

He uses a heat gun. It's pretty quick to strip like that. It's getting exciting now... fun stuff

He's moving fast. Were you quoted a turnaround time?

I was under the impression he always has a full queue, and things take quite some time...?

Or was that only Dave J?

Failing that get yourself a Stew Mac string spacing ruler, check your spacing, then adjust one of your saddles and see if it still lines up with your ruler.
I totally get the angles and the fact that the strings are not parallel making the possibility of shortening the string making the strings closer together. The difference would imperceptable to the naked eye.

Hey Wilko, cool. Yeah that makes sense.... Still, not a job I'd want to do. I'm not even very keen on stripping wall paper let alone a guitar finish.

Yeah jb I cant beleive how quick it's moving. I put down the deposit in 2022 so there was a bit of a wait to get started but as they say, all good things right?

Florian told me it should be about 8 weeks start to finish which is actually alot quicker than I had expected.

Yeah Wilco it's pretty small in the big scheme of things and probably doesn't bother most but I find I'm quite sensitive to it, the way it makes the guitar feel to me that is but I did say I'm a bit OCD....

The guitar is an imperfect thing and I guess that's what i love about it, no two are the same. I guess I try maybe a little to hard to make it as perfect as it can be.

Maybe I should spend more time playing and less time obsessing.

I'd like to think I'm a man of science. I also know I think visually. Here's a drawing showing the effect of moving a saddle the full range of motion afforded by an ABR-1 bridge with string spacing of 2.5 where blue is shortest, red is longest.

BTW, were you around back in 2010 when I converted a 1956 Les Paul to a Burst?

Ahh, cool.

No, I wasn't around. Your saying you did it yourself? Impressive.

Sounds like you made a thread? If so I'd love to read it, what's it titled?

Hey Wilco, nice project. Very impressive.

That wood is beautiful, loads of character.

News just in, trade secret; not a heat gun. (Apparently this is for girls.) Not sure I can say that these days but hey I was born in 1975 and reserve the right.
He uses a torch?
