Some Pedal Board Advise Please...

I usually play straight through my amps but lately I have been trying to use a few pedals. Laying out on the floor unprotected with those tiny wires is not working so well. I figure I need a real pedalboard? Suggestions? A good sturdy one? :60burst

Pedalboard

I mounted mine on a 3/4" piece of plywood. Drilled holes on either side of where the pedal sits, and run zip ties around them. This way you can place the pedals exactly where you want them on the board.

For transit, I put the board in a small suitcase with a pillow stuffed inside for protection.

i use tehe old arion pedalboards. they pop up on ebay every now and then and they are usually inexpensive. the last one i got was $100.00 and it had a delay pedal and a vibrator pedal in it, with all teh patch cables and power cables. arion really needs to start making these again.

60Burst.....PedalBoard? I can't believe your name was attached to this thread.:lol....Anyway I used to use and still have an old board I made and painted black...I would just lay my pedals on it...that way they are framed and elevated so know one would walk over them or kick them around...you cant miss that ugly ts808 on black background.:lol

I would never use AC power. It just changes the tone and is to unpredictable.

What is your setup these days???...we all know you have the amp arsenal from hell to pull from.....

Yeah. Me and a pedalboard. It doesn't make much sense does it? Pedals sound different when using AC as opposed to batteries? Shit!!!! I didn't know that????? You know my other guitar player has a homemade pedalboard that he carries around in a Tupperware case, that sounds great. I try and use pedals and for some reason, they just don't cut it. I have no natural ability to use a pedal, at all. I turn knobs, stomp the shit out of them and I still never come up with anything I can use for a whole song. I sometimes stomp on a pedal during a solo and before it is over walk back over and stomp it off because I don't like the sound.....other players laugh about it.........

So Arion, huh? I will watch for one... Tehe, Fred???? You stayed too long at Ed's.:lolspin :lolspin

I figure if I build a nice pedalboard maybe somehow that is going to help things?????...........

Plaintop, I used a 66 Deluxe Reverb Friday and Saturday night with my 55 goldtop. Sunday, we played an outdoor festival and used the amps provided. The other guitar player got a Mesa Dual Rectifier and tweeked things with his pedalboard and sounded really fucking good....... I got the sucky Rivera with 1x12. One of my two pedals wouldn't work for some reason? (non use perhaps?) I still got a fairly good sound ( too dirty for me) but let's say I won't be rushing out to buy a Rivera anytime soon.

Okay, before I feel the wrath from you Rivera guys let me explain..... I don't know how to use the amp. I mean, this thing had a FOCUS knob!!! What the fuck is that? It also had a Master and I think Drive? Or something to that affect........ it had too many knobs for me. That coupled with my affinity for pedals made me want to help adjust the other guitar players amp for him.....
Why should he be happy??:lolspin I guess we have discovered why this new interest in a pedalboard......Hmmmm........I should have taken the DR with me...........;)

Thats funny...your an old timer moving into pedals and I am younger guy trying to move away from them. I think it takes a skilled craftsman to jump on stage with an amp, cable and guitar. You really have to know your shit. I admire that and rarely see it. I guess if you have to play the newer cover songs you need the color to keep it real. I've been there and still have all the old pedals just in case.;)

OLDTIMER????? I guess that's accurate...........shit........

I really don't think I give up anything not using pedals. It is all I have ever done. I have had many people come up to me and comment that I don't use any pedals. I don't think it is necessarily a plus or minus either way. I thought that if I had a pedalboard I could maybe get everything set and forget it. I do very little tweaking once I start playing and it irritates me when I have to.

I do hate pedal overuse. I hear it in most new music on the radio. I don't like over production or too much effects use. In the 60s and 70s they were all about experimentation, helping take us into new territory. Now they seem to replace talent and ability in many recordings that I hear.

I like messing with pedals some, but I doubt I ever learn to use them as well and tastefully as many players do..............

Pedal Boards

60-

I've been looking into this for a while.
For me there are three ways to go here depending on your needs and budget.

1. Build a custom board.
(been there done that)

2. moderatly priced Furman Pedal Board
(I like this one)

3.Top of the line Modular Pedal Board
(world tour quality)

hope this is some help

I got one of those $100 pedal boards (Electar) from Music Yo. I'm surprised at how good it is. Nice, quiet power supply. Solid hardshell case. 2 loops. Plenty of velcro & cables. Can't beat it, IMO.

There are some good ideas here guys. I don't know if a pedalboard is for me or not but I don't like having the loose pedals on stage during an important show. We played a big venue recently and I had two pedals with me. One mysteriously wouldn't work for some reason. That is irritating. I am guessing I have stomped on the wire or something? Who knows? I appreciate the links Spose. I am reading through those sites now. Thanks, guys..........;)

Did SKB work out the grounding problem with their pedalboards? If so, I might get one. I like their stuff.

I have a Way Huge Red Llama that I use on one song, if I set it up. The Way Huge Green Rhino is the one I am trying to use but I don't like the loss of dynamics I seem to get with every pedal I use. I have an original TS808 but it colors the sound even when it is off so I don't use it except sometimes in the studio.

I thought I might could set up a board and have some sounds pre set so I didn't have to mess with ever adjusting pedals. I only want to use the pedals on the odd song or two so I want them to be as little trouble as possible. I thought that with a board I might add a chorus and I have a compressor I sometimes use to record with. I wanted a dummy proof board so that I could get the odd sound every once in a while without any trouble.

Get a VHT Valvulator. Those things are magic! I bought one because I didn't like the loss of bass and dynamics with my three pedals. The built in power supply is an added bonus.
