I just wanted to add a thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read this thread and tried to help me. I appreciate it very much.
Richard I've been through this twice, and the help you will get police is abysmal at best. Both times I got my stolen guitars back they came from going public with the information, the police investigations were useless DO NOT PUT YOUR FATE INTO THEIR HANDS!!! The police told me most likely my guitars were out of state, when they were both found within a 15 mile radius of my house. They also let one of the thieves go because they couldn't find the police report. Wilco is the one with the best advice but you are not seeing it!!! There is no lawsuit threat to you by going public with the shady dealers name who is covering for the guy with the guitar. The dealer has already showed his dishonesty by covering for that scumbag!

Outing the dealer earlier will not materially improve the situation. I think RR's prudence here is justified and a careful approach will hopefully pay off. A less subtle one may have a detrimental effect on progress.

Play it cool RR, keep talking to the cops, and if it's worth a lot of money, get as much legal advice as you can.

Why can't you tell us the dealers website that it showed up on (as in your thread title) That can't do any harm

I would suggest that doing that might help to make that dealer more co-operative in an attempt to get his credibility back as he quite clearly knows who has the guitar as he gave it back to them.

I don't know for sure because I have never done it, but when you take a guitar into a dealer to sell on consignment for you, there must be some form of documentation process between the dealer and the owner of the guitar.

Just a thought!!!

RR, you are looking for advice and help here . . . why not help US by naming this asshole dealer who handed your guitar back to someone else? Then we can avoid doing business with them.

The most important thing is to get the guitar back. Anything that might jeopardise that should be avoided. Burning on the stake can happen later once the prime objective has been achieved.

Guys I spoke to LV Metro detectives and Talladega County Sheriff Investigator today
and told them about the weird phone call from the "lawyer". Talladega County Investigator said it was
a scam.

RR receiving that info is at least a step in the right direction (although shitty) on what you should do from this moment on. Flood ALL the forums with pics of the guitar and all the info you have on the dealer and Mr. Mystery. Somebody some where will know it when they see or hear about the guitar and the arseholes involved. It might be time to name the culprits and you'll have a huge community to back you up! Imagine all the forums you have at your disposal and how much you can ruin these guys. I know going full GI JOE gung-ho at this moment is touchy but it might be time to consider what the forum communities can do about this. I'm venting at this moment putting myself in your shoes but at the end of the day you know the situation better than all of us. Why am I so angry? lol. Best of luck RR and keep us posted. We're all on your side and will do anything to help.

Thanks Norlight, well as you are probably aware those most recent pics of the guitar came right from the Alabama dealers website and it was clear he was intent on selling the guitar. I think HE was acting initially in good faith and did not know anything about the guitar history. I think HE acted very badly, when told of the guitar being stolen, to send it back to the mystery dealer. Alabama dealer told me a lot about mystery dealer as far as how mystery dealer acquired the guitar from Vegas dealer. He didn't tell me what mystery dealer paid or even if he did pay anything. That's where this whole thing turns. I know you guys are smart so I am surprised no one has guessed at or recognizes who I am talking about. See above Chasenblues.

A Google picture search took me to the dealers website.

I'd have bought it, cancelled the transaction/stopped payment and send copy of police report.

Hey RR! Thanks for the response my man. I was venting and trying to put myself in your shoes which I am not wearing. In my neck of the woods this s**t is so common that I would not even know where to begin in your situation. Best of luck and looking forward to new brother. Norlight.

How do you Google search a picture? :hmm

Right click on the photo...it's one of the options that pop up. After you do it, do as Billy Idol does, and give a Rebel yell!:hee

Al, other people have suggested the same thing and aside from the fact that it would be wrong the "lawyer" demanded the following terms:

1. That I would have to pay in advance 30k in a bank certified check
2. that check would be deposited to a mystery law firm account
3. and then once the check had cleared the bank the guitar would be returned to me.

In other words give us 30K and we will let you know.

Sounds creepy weird right?
