• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Uncirculated '59 Burst just showed up (9 0307)

Don't the crumbled tuners support the idea that this one's been in the case for most of it's lifetime? I thought that the hypothesis is that the lacquer vapor causes/caused the deterioration of those knobs ...

Those tuners have really gone. The color, overall condition, particularly the screws, studs, tailpiece, pickguard bracket all suggest a case queen. Probably taken out and played occassionally at home.

Looks like it rolled of the prod line yesterday, beautiful example and burst paint job.

Wonder how she sounds ?

Was Gibson doing that in the late 50s? I've owned some mid-50s Les Pauls (purchased from Canada) - and they had the small "Made in the USA" stamp - but I have not seen that on later 50s models.

A '62 335 I owned had the "Made in the USA" stamp on the headstock...:peace2

Pretty.......and a pretty early one too.
Looked in BOTB and 9 0310 is a tobacco/darkburst so she doesn't fit with that run at all:2cool
You may also want to check burstserial and see other surrounding serial numbers. :salude

Julio's site shows these two on each side of 9-0307:

9 0303
9 0306
9 0307
9 0311
9 0314

That guitar is really bright colored. It looks like a 1960! :wow
Thanks, Tom. I guess that's just the sunshine hitting hard on the guitar. I am guessing CD-style photography would not show it that red...

It would likely be more vivid than one that was not a case queen.

But, judging colors from photos is very difficult. If you have seen and handled many Bursts, inside and in the sun, you will know what I mean. :ganz

Wow what a gorgeous Les Paul. Dig the reverse chevron flame. The reds are very difficult to photograph, indoors and outdoors, so the color may look different in person.

Not disputing the provenance of the guitar, but the rear headstock photo background (shot on carpet padding) doesn't match up with the other photos taken outdoors on the grass. I guess it was taken at a different time.

Anyway....:3zone

I bet it is the sunshine causing this coloration.

Tom is correct. The bottom pic is one I took of my old 9 0636 in VERY bright mid day summer sun... laying out on a trampoline... The OP burst is the top pic. TW ran this pic a few years ago in a Burst Of The Week thread. The "actual" color is nowhere near that bright nor is the spray band that pronounced and a good example of not being able to judge color by pics.

Some more info about the guitar, directly from its owner:

Julio, when I acquired this burst I have to admit I was so consumed and excited and trying to stay composed all at the same time that I did not realized the significancy of what I came home with it was truly my final and most remarkable find of all burst I have owned over the years . This guitar came all original with case, keys original purchase order and receipt dated march 26, 1959 for $295.00 and $50 for the case and a carring charge of $37.00 on the receipt from a music store at 317 fort street in winnipeg canada with the store logo on the the order musical merchandise order from the Ray Hamerton music store with all the original gibson material that came with guitar. I must relate I felt truly blessed that day and now knowingly what remarkable day that was. I only hope the next care taker of this burst will feel as I do, cause most people only look at its monetary value.

Awesome, thanks for posting, Julio!

I am still waiting for 9 0304 to appear. The one I saw 2009 in Germany screamed "fake".
