Besides many that have already been mentioned, I really like Chris Rhea. His slide work is great. :jim

Since humbuckers have always been my first love, I rarely hear strat tone that makes me want to try and duplicate it... except for when I hear Steve Miller, Joe Walsh or Mick Ralphs (Bad Company). I was just listening to Bad Company today and it made want to get home and plug my strat into my plexi clone.

For my money, both Robin Trower and Jeff Beck did the transition from paula to strat better than EC. There's one unmentioned cat though who shined tremendously on a modded '63 strat; Allan Holdsworth, and especially on his first solo record from 1982. Everything through a humbucker in the bridge, and with lots of volume pedal swells. It's jazz, but it's not. It's almost fusion, but not really. The drummer later went on to make a career in Level 42, the british band with the ridiculously busy bassplayer. It sounded like this

I almost forgot about one of the guitarists who inspired me a great deal years ago in the 70's & have been a big fan of theirs since. :jim Usually seen playing a Burny LP, but he could play the heck out of an EC Strat...Prog Rocker Andy Latimer of Camel. I saw this tour when Camel came to town and he played that strat for the entire show. What a great show...!

At the time he was living in the Bay Area. I had a friend at a music shop that was good friends w/ him and I had just bought a Fulltone OD pedal that I didn't like, so I ended up giving the pedal to him & he gave to Andy. He really liked the pedal & it soon became part of his rig. In turn, Andy gave me a bunch of goodies that I have stashed in my memorabilia cabinet. He was out seriously sick for some time, but better now & out recording & playing once again. :salude .

There used to a live cut of this, but YT must have taken it down. Only the whole show is available now. Andy lets it rip towards the end...
