• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Making the Gibson Les Paul Custom Shop 2021 even better!!

A glamour shot of your Historic(s) is typical of a first post. You decided to get right into talking about what can be improved. That is fine. My objections and I believe most of the push back you received happened when you began posting completely erroneous information as fact. That vintage/modern neck diagram sketch you posted appears to be an absolute fabrication which you should take down for integrity’s sake.

This community is served by good and honest debate and the freedom to disagree even vociferously is beautiful thing particualry in today‘s day and age.

Btw, Sounds like a wonderful wife. A 59M2M should be a fantastic Les Paul. Please share some photos of it with us on the board.
The erroneous vintage/modern neck diagram is from Dr.Nitro. He seems to know more than a lot about vintage Les Paul. It would surprise me very much if he is wrong!

Dr. Nitro! Well why didn’t you say so. Doctor lmfao

Anyone looking at that diagram can see that geometrically its rubbish. I don’t care who scribbled it. Instead of posting more nonsense maybe you could grace us with a few photos of your M2M 59 Historic

Btw, Dr. Kellogg was considered an expert on health back in the day.

I bet she plays like a dream and sounds as good as well . What a beauty ( look what you have done as I can't stop saying how beautiful she is ) Now I bet that you haven't dared remove her neck for the mod that you speak of right ?

Isn't It a conflict of interest when in the first 3 minutes of the DR.Nitro video that he mentions that he is a builder ,along with Florian who is the one doing this mod on new Custom Shop Les Paul's . When I see this right at the beginning of the video it makes me think he is a shill drumming up business and casting that hook out to anyone who bites on it for a significant up charge .

It’s no use, this guy is a troll or a shill. He repeats circuitous nonsense. Posts pictures of clearly fabricated and fallacious diagrams and follows up with internet photos that actually CONTRADICT that diagram

LOOK at the diagram he posted. It is the “modern” tenon that slightly resembles that bizarre 1952 staircase tenon!

Like I said, this guy has posted complete and utter derogatory fallacious bullshlt about Gibson Historics since he joined the board, while pumping luthiers who make their living from the assumption that Historics are some how lacking.

As far as that M2M 59 is concerned, while it’s at least plausible that he owns an R9, I won’t believe it until I see a note next to it stating Morgan 24 and more pride of ownership pictures that are almost de regeur for any legit Historic owner.

Seriously, if you had a recent beautiful M2M 59, would your first post be about imagined neck tenon minutiae or a glamor shot of your favorite Les Paul.

It really is incredible to read his diatribe against our favorite instruments . I might crank my head open a slight bit if he showed in detail photos with an accurate timeline of Florian doing this mod to that M2M Les Paul that he posted . You know because it's one thing to sing the virtues of this mod to us , but put up your Les Paul to this butchering . The only thing I ever do is replace the Custombuckers for ThroBak's . That's it , because buying a R series Guitar means we buy into the build quality and design and that equals out to the desired tone and sound we seek . This is a very specific item that we seek out from Gibson Custom -that sound and tone ( along with the beauty of those maple tops and all shades of Burst ) . Then to have someone come on here to "our" Forum and Pontificate about how "we " should fix our Les Paul's is pure Garbage with a capital G . To further add I would not even do this mod to a overseas made Epiphone . I don't know it's almost like not even respecting your Les Paul . These Lester's cost a lot of money and it would be a complete desecration to murder it like this .

I have never seen a 59' with the neck of, sorry about that. The only thing that concerns me about my 59' is the neck to body joint and the assembly method the Custom Shop is using.
This is because I know for sure that one of the most crucial thing on a guitar is the neck joint. By this statement I don't say that Les Paul Custom Shop are bad guitars, there is a reason why I have exactly that instrument. But if I could I would have paid extra for the Custom Shop to take more time when gluing the neck before the fretboard. Making it possible to actually see the fit and neck angle. The way they do it now they can't see anything and they only spent 10 minutes on this crucial step.
I would also pay extra for real nitro if this was an option i love the way it age.
I dont understand why you guys are so sure of yourself when it comes to DR. Nitro and Florian Jaeger to me they seem very legit with a lot of information about vintage Les Paul's.

Ok, I just had this thought and I will ask you how this will affect or improve the tone of the Gibson Les Paul ? I am coming from an open minded perspective at this moment and at the end of the day for me is the tone as no other solidbody guitar delivers this type of sound . For me that would be the measuring stick and benchmark . This would be nice to have a side by side video comparison of a Solidbody Les Paul ( no Swiss Cheese weight relieved instrument ) versus a Solidbody Les Paul with the fingerboard installed after the neck is glued on . That IMHO would be the most critical test to this mod , because it has to be more than just a cosmetic mod . Which truly would have no applicable purpose or justification .

I think it would be easier if Gibson Custom Shop contacted Florian Jaeger and Historic Makeovers to ask them about the quality problems there might be with the neck to body assembly. They could ask for pictures from Jaeger and HM and figure out if there is a problem or not with the method they are using regarding neck to body assembly😁

with all due respect I don't think this will happen anytime soon, Gibson has been in the building guitars business for a long, long time

Greetings , Reading your post to my question made me think that if it isn't broke why fix it ? Just like the Gentleman responded above that Gibson has been building stringed instruments since 1890 , they know what they are doing . Best Wishes 🎸

If you like playing Epiphone and Squire Stratocaster fine with me. So why putting anyone down who want a close as possible Les Paul 59? I just dont get it, and why do you read a post like this? If it is okay to play a cheap guitar then why is it not okay to change parts to make your guitar sound better?? I just dont get it!! If you cant hear the difference on the YouTube clip, fine with me no problem. If I can hear a big difference what is the problem with that??
Google Gil Yaron . He can make you the instrument you want with the features you seek . I hear a lot of wonderful things about his work and those that have his instruments sing his praises.

IMO I truly believe the Makeover market is softer than the Murphy market other than a few bellyacher's on this Forum wanting marshmallows in their hot chocolate I commend Gibson !
