• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Valuable information to consider when evaluating the authenticity of a vintage burst

I might be wrong, but it looks to me like the headstock ‘moustache’ might have been subtly reshaped since Zapper owned the guitar. What do you all think? Here’s some pics for comparison.

It's entertaining that the tail of the "P" in Paul has also disappeared as that was one of the specific things which made it questionable. Quite convenient that it's gone now, eh?

Very convenient indeed. Certainly the headstock face now shows substantially more wear and tear than might reasonably be expected to have occurred naturally in the brief time since Zapper owned the guitar.

One would have thought that better care might be taken of an £8k+ guitar that - according to the Reverb description - some experts still believe could be a genuine 1960 Gibson Les Paul standard. :ROFLMAO:

Re: Restoring my 1960 'Burst... need HELP..!! :)

Man on a mission. By this time next week, we should expect to learn of multiple lawsuits filed against all of the British detractors.....?:dang

How much are you (they) seeking in monetary damages? Who will be your expert witness testifying in court?:ganz:ganz

I am just chiming in to say somehow I got sucked down the rabbit hole of this thread, and some how came across a picture of my hometown in the process. Lol. What are the odds.

Oversized tuner bushings are available so you can restore to klusons without woodwork if the holes arent too buggered, they look and sound ok. To my ears the old pots and caps have a sound, i definitely noticed a difference when i restored to original pots in my 58. The old caps too- personally i can hear it, even if theyre a bit out of spec they have “that” sound-
Amen on the caps. I was surprised when I installed old Bees!

I recall watching the reveal video last year…deep diving on LPs (poor sod) nice to finally see the thread and have the thread bumped up for us newbies to read the journey of the 60s LP! 😉 ..and as I’ve said before.. the wealth of knowledge on the forum is incredible..
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Edit: does anyone know what happened to the guitar.. or who owns it now?

This thread was made sticky, and only God knows how many gullible unsuspecting collectors/players have read it, and was educated / warned before they purchased a "burst" at a price too good to be true.
As for the guitar in the thread, one thing is as certain as rain in London: It will pop up again someday as a real 1960 Les Paul, -and priced for real money, but still well below average going rates. Maybe even with another serial #. The crooked bastards in the vintage guitar scam business are reading LPF too you know..

I did think this would be a very real possibility. We’ve seen very recently posts by new members fishing for info and are soon found out to be fakers.
We have to be vigilant on here and continue to scope people out..

As you rightly pointed out due diligence is paramount when considering any high end vintage purchase and the “to good to be true” approach has to be applied with any purchase.

Funny how the original seller stated (on return of the guitar) that “the guitar will stay within the family now as it’s been in the family a long time” .. 🤔 yeah right.
