I told my wife that I wasn't buying any more guitars and she laughed and laughed...

I just bought this 2014 Les Paul Memphis ES.

Last week I had four guitars sitting in the living room getting mulled over for consignment before my bride left on a long trip.

Now there are just two Teles that I’ll consign as I’ve reconsidered the sale of a Taylor 12-string and an EDS-1275.

Plus I’ve ordered a ‘15 ES-Les Paul Goldtop and a ‘91 ES-175.

I still might move the double necks as it’s such an impractical guitar.

A double neck is such a heavy guitar, but oh so cool. I look forward to seeing your ES goldtop.

My ES arrives tomorrow. I’m strategizing like a kid on Christmas Eve. Maybe if I go to bed right now at 1pm, tomorrow will come sooner?

Wow, the ES looks amazing in goldtop.

I had my initial run through with it and I’m thinking I’m going to love this guitar for quite a while. It’s a Les Paul but man it’s really light. No red flags. The minor cosmetic stuff looked huge in the pictures and it’s nothing in person. Pick guard off now as God intended!

I’ve been a heavy poster at TGP but I’m on an involuntary vacation. I’m hoping to enjoy some time here with the Gibson folks.

My ES-175 arrives soon. Why stop at one new to you guitar when you haven’t bought one since 2023?

1 0f 100. They only made one Limited Run and only a single color in Lefty "Light Burst," so that's what I've got. MHS pickups (unbalanced, underwound, A3 scatterwound, 42 enamel), real MoP inlays, CTS post with Orange Drops, TonePros Bridge, Light Aluminum tail, and 1.7" bone nut on these.

Much thanks to Mike Voltz, the PM of Memphis during its heyday and last gasp, they were really firing on all cyclinders then, within the confines of what HJ allowed...

From Gibson --

The perfect marriage of Les Paul and ES-335, the ES-Les Paul yields powerful tones and a lightweight playing feel, courtesy of figured maple top, maple back and rims, cream bound rosewood board with pearloid trapezoids on a mahogany rounded 'C' neck profile with rolled binding for a played-in feel, PAF-style MHS pickups, and an f-hole engraved truss rod cover. All these details which culminate into an amazing instrument are now being offered on a Left-Handed ES-Les Paul! Never before has the tone and feel of the Les Paul combined with the precision and beauty of the hollowbody ES-Series guitars been offered in a Left-Handed version. All 100 guitars in this Limited Run are available now to the Left-Handed artists.

I was also impressed at the time, that the center block was made of mahogany like a Les Paul vs maple like an ES-335.

That’s a good point. They really tried to use as little as possible, apparently. I love what they did for the strap button. I don’t like a strap button on the back of the neck. The guitar pulls away from my body in that location.

Congrats! Those Memphis ES Les Pauls are great guitars…… & Light! I have one in Bourbon Burst. Give the pickups a try before you pull them. They a unique to Memphis guitars. I have way too many guitars & told myself I was done, I already have another on the radar…..
The guitar arrived and I really like the pickups. Very thick and powerful sounding. Pinch harmonics are easy. I’ll play through my set list and see how they sound. We play all 80s rock. My band is called All She Wrote.
