• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Valuable information to consider when evaluating the authenticity of a vintage burst

Re: Restoring my 1960 'Burst... need HELP..!! :)

Thanks guys...

This is in no way a personal vendetta... but they are doing these things for a long time now.
And always the same story... Promoting something, getting negative feedback, stubborn denial...

And it's not that they don't find victims...

Wow! I didn’t know that has sold! I do believe there’s a word for that right? Ian?

That’s a shame- I guess he can be reached via his website elitevintageguitars.com?

He’s got a real cool looking ‘58 Burst advertised there too!

Blimey, you internet warriors make me giggle....! No I am NOT Gareth! He's far uglier than me for a start! But he did broker the guitar on behalf of Elite Guitars (who incidentally have an amazing collection). In fact one of the pics of The Nile (!) I posted was taken in his living room when I bought it last November.... and against which I part-exchanged my Wine Red '79 Custom. So very sorry, but no conspiracy. Jeeez you guys crack me up..!! :rofl

Incidentally having spoken to Gareth (and his boss) this morning, some of you need to get deleting comments about certain of their guitars being 'fake'... unless you particularly fancy a day in Court defending a libel & defamation rap. Could cost you a lot of dosh in damages and Court fees. They're apparently consulting solicitors as I type....

ps. please don't tell the fuzz..!:rofl

Shame... this is seen in all aspects of collecting anything.
Money= deception.

Zapper, gives us the facts mate!

You're Ian who bought this "allegedly" 1960 Les Paul from your good friend Gareth or a friend of Gareth? Which is very possible of course.

But you are in no way concerned with the fact that there is so much wrong (according to dozens here)?
You're probably very happy with Tom, a well-respected forum owner, backing up the guitar. Even though he's almost alone with this opinion.

Don't you think there are several choices in the UK if you want to get the guitar vetted by having one (or several) of them inspecting the guitar in person. Instead of relying on us, internet warriors, judging on some lousy pictures that aren't even recent, since they're Gareths?

Contact Gary Winterflood, Richard Henry, ... or others who have seen, handled, traded and bought these guitars in the past
In your interest, get this sorted out (quickly) and report back for the benefit of all of us.
Prove us warriors wrong and Elite Vintage guitars right!

I'm concerned about certain aspects, eg the chew, but now that Terry Mueller has an explanation for it I'm a little more relaxed. Not so worried about some of the other nonsense that people have come up with though...

Interesting that the two most respected and knowledgeable experts on this thread both think it's a genuine 'Burst... leaving the rest of you guys desperately trying to scrape egg off your faces...! How funny!

And as I've said about 5 times already, yes I will be contacting Gary W just as soon as I can find him. And yes I will be reporting back, whether good news or bad....

Patek, it's a superb guitar to play and sounds great so why give it back? If I've paid a couple of grand over the odds for a 'replica' then so what... C'est la vie! I still enjoy playing it. And it's certainly the best playing/sounding LP I've ever owned, including numerous '70s models - see below (although no doubt JJ and sweiger will soon be telling me they're all fakes....:spabout).

Just a shame "The Nile" is a) so heavy, and b) smells of vomit..! At least it's famous now though lol..! :)

Why on earth would we do that? :wah
